NFL teams across the nation have finally taken to the field to begin preparations for the 2025 campaign in earnest. The big prize this year will be Super Bowl 60. And though it is only the eve of June, it’s time to start looking ahead to the upcoming season and what kind of NFL betting value we can find among the bevy of futures betting markets offered for the league.
One of the most intriguing is a simple yes or no proposition: will there be a first-time Super Bowl winner in 2025? There are still 12 teams among the NFL’s 32-team field that have never won a Lombardi Trophy. And there are some serious contenders among that dozen. We took an early look at the “First Time Winner” future betting market to provide you with analysis and a well-educated prediction for how the market will shake out.
Highlights
- The Lions, Bengals, and Bills make a bet on a first time winner very realistic
- Kansas City and Philadelphia also make it hard to count out a repeat winner
- 13 different teams have won in the last 18 years

Potential First-Time Winners (+190)
Since the turn of the century, the NFL has seen seven teams win championships that had never done so before. The most recent of these was the Philadelphia Eagles, who won their first Lombardi in 2017 before doubling their total last year.
That brought the number of teams to have never won the Super Bowl down to 12. There are definitely a few teams among that dozen that have no chance of bringing home any hardware in 2025. No one in the AFC South or NFC South is winning anything this year.
However, there are a few teams that make a bet on a first time winner to win the Super Bowl in 2025, which is at +190 odds on most sports betting apps, a very enticing proposition. Among these are the Buffalo Bills, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Detroit Lions.
The Bills and Bengals have two of the best QBs in the league in Josh Allen and Joe Burrow, and the Lions have one of the best all-around rosters and a top head coach. The Bengals went to the Super Bowl in 2021, while the Lions and Bills have been banging their heads against the Conference Championship walls over the last couple of years. This could very well be the year they break those walls down.
Potential Repeat Winners (-240)
Obviously, a big reason why the odds for a repeat winner (-240) are shorter than those for a first time winner is that both participants in last year’s Super Bowl 59, the Chiefs and Eagles, are in the repeat winners camp, along with 18 other teams.
However, for the purposes of this bet, the Chiefs and Eagles represent the most likely winners from this group. Lamar Jackson’s Ravens are also contenders, but we believe the Bengals and Bills will fare better than them this season.
Final Prediction - First Time Winner - NFL 2025
Unless a team comes out of nowhere, we’re probably looking at Chiefs, Eagles, and Ravens vs. Bills, Bengals, and Lions. While the former group obviously has the advantage in terms of championship experience, we think, apart from the Eagles, the first time winners group has a better outlook for next year.
There have been 13 different Super Bowl winners in the last 18 years. That means that not only are we seeing a lot of teams win their first ever championship, we’re also seeing a lot of teams end long championship droughts. The league has had some great parity in recent years.
Philadelphia is going to be a tough out, but we believe that the trend of parity and sharing the wealth around the league will continue in 2025. We have only had two repeat winners since the turn of the century, which counts against the Birds. The Chiefs dynasty certainly seems to be on the downturn as well. That all sets up for a new kid on the block to get their first win in the Big Game this year.
