Salahdine Parnasse (23-2) may be an unknown entity to most UFC fans, but any MMA junkie or MMA fan outside the U.S. certainly knows the name. And the UFC did too. He has been considered the best fighter outside Dana White’s grasp for a few years now–but he’s still only 28 years old, and he has two championship belts in his trophy case already.

In his debut he gets Dan Hooker (24-14), once a legit contender at 155 pounds but now more of a gatekeeper at No. 12 on the rankings. Hooker has surprised some up-and-comers like Parnasse before, but more often than not he holds the gate open as they take their careers to the next level.

Hooker is coming off a couple of ugly second-round stoppage losses against Benoit Saint-Denis and Arman Tsarukyan. But those guys are top of the pile at lightweight. Will Parnasse be on their level already in his UFC debut against a grizzled veteran and in front of an expectant home crowd? It’s a lot of pressure.

But we think he’ll be able to handle it. He’s been the biggest MMA fighter in Europe for a while now, and his eight-year age advantage over Hooker (36 to 28) will tell here, especially with Hooker getting more and more beat up the longer he stays in the game.

Hooker has lost a lot in the UFC, though it’s mostly come to the cream of the division’s crop. Even still, he fights the same way he always has, attempting to brawl his way to a surprise win and taking immense damage in the process. Parnasse is going to catch him in the first couple of rounds, maybe with that lightning quick head kick, and it’ll be early lights out for Hooker for the third straight time.

Best Bet: Salahdine Parnasse to Win via KO/TKO/DQ (-125)
