Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa is putting his name behind BC.GAME’s Mexican operation, with the five-time World Cup veteran fronting a new campaign that places regulatory compliance, payment transparency and player trust at the center of the crypto and iGaming platform’s pitch to Mexican customers. The campaign arrives after a summer in which soccer betting became one of the biggest stories in North American iGaming.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup was co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, bringing the sport’s biggest tournament directly into three rapidly evolving betting markets. In Canada, the regulated Ontario sports betting market was already approaching $10 billion in monthly wagering, while Alberta launched its competitive private iGaming market just as the tournament reached its decisive stages.

The World Cup has just demonstrated its ability to pull new audiences toward regulated betting sites, and Ochoa gives the company one of Mexico’s most recognizable football figures to make the case for its local platform.

Highlights

  • Guillermo Ochoa is fronting a new BC.Game campaign explaining the due diligence he says he conducted before agreeing to represent the platform.
  • BC.Game is emphasizing its Mexican regulatory standing and local payment infrastructure, including OXXO and SPEI, as it seeks to build trust with local customers.
  • The partnership comes as BC.Game pursues a broader Mexico growth strategy, using Ochoa’s status as one of the country’s most recognizable football figures to connect with fans.

Canada’s iGaming boom sets the backdrop

Canada entered the World Cup with a fragmented sports-betting landscape. Federal law permits provinces and territories to conduct and manage single-event sports betting, but the online market remains provincially controlled. Ontario and Alberta are currently the two provinces with competitive private online markets.

Ontario’s numbers illustrate how quickly the market has matured. The province recorded a record $9.88 billion in cash wagers during July, up almost 31% year over year. August remained the second-biggest month on record, with $9.74 billion in wagers despite a post-World Cup slowdown in sports betting.

Soccer was particularly important during the tournament. June sports betting handle in Ontario reached $1.03 billion, up 34.5% from June 2025, with the World Cup providing a clear catalyst. In Alberta, meanwhile, GeoComply recorded more than 3.2 million geolocation checks and over 100,000 sign-ups during the first week of the province’s new regulated market. The World Cup final alone generated more than 53,000 geolocation checks.

There was also evidence that the tournament changed betting behavior. Responsible Gambling Council research found 52.7% of soccer bettors said their betting during major sporting events was different from their normal routine.

Ochoa puts trust at the heart of BC.GAME’s pitch

BC.GAME announced Ochoa as a brand ambassador in July, describing the agreement as part of its localized strategy for Mexico. The latest campaign goes a step further by having Ochoa explain why he agreed to put his reputation behind the platform.

“Trust is never given to you, you earn it,” Ochoa says in the campaign. “After five World Cups, if there's one thing I've learned, it's that. So before I put my name next to any brand, I ask the hard questions first.”

According to BC.GAME, Ochoa personally examined the platform before agreeing to the partnership. The campaign highlights questions surrounding licensing, payment methods and withdrawals, with Ochoa specifically pointing to OXXO deposits and SPEI bank transfers.

Who is Guillermo Ochoa?

Ochoa is one of the defining Mexican footballers of his generation. He made his Mexico debut in 2005 and became a familiar presence at the World Cup, producing some of his most memorable performances against Brazil in 2014, Germany in 2018 and Poland in 2022. FIFA previously listed him among Mexico’s most experienced World Cup players, with five tournaments and 11 appearances through 2022.

Then came 2026. Ochoa became part of a select group to appear at a sixth World Cup, extending a remarkable international career that FIFA described as a milestone no Mexican player had previously reached. He subsequently ended his international career following the tournament.

That timing makes the BC.GAME campaign particularly notable. Ochoa is transitioning from football icon to commercial ambassador while his visibility with Mexican fans remains exceptionally high.

What it means for iGaming

In the short term, the partnership gives BC.GAME a powerful way to convert World Cup attention into sustained brand recognition. The longer-term question is whether celebrity-led marketing can translate into trust that survives beyond the campaign.

That will matter across the Mexican market, and the Canadian experience offers a useful lesson. Rapid market growth has brought more operators, bigger betting volumes and more sophisticated player protections, but it has also increased scrutiny around advertising and responsible gambling. Alberta, for example, requires registered operators to include responsible-gambling messaging and restricts the use of athletes or personalities who appeal to minors in gambling endorsements.

For BC.GAME, Ochoa is therefore being positioned as a bridge between football culture and the company's attempt to establish credibility in a regulated market. The real test, however, will come after the World Cup spotlight fades. If BC.GAME can match the campaign's message about transparency with consistent licensing compliance, payments, customer support and responsible-gambling protections, Ochoa's endorsement could become part of a much bigger strategy across North America.
