2026 NFL Draft Futures: Position of Mr. Irrelevant Betting Odds & Best Bets

Public Domain Mark 1.0 Universal
The 2026 NFL Draft takes center stage in Pittsburgh in a couple of weeks. And while most will be focused on the first round on the first day, Thursday, April 23, we’ve got our eye on the other end of the draft on Saturday, April 25. That’s when rounds 4 through 7 will take place, wrapping up with the 257th and final selection of the draft: Mr. Irrelevant.
The team currently holding that pick is the Denver Broncos, though it could very well be traded: the final pick has been traded in four of the last 10 years after being moved just twice in the previous 15.
Here, we take a look not at who will be Mr. Irrelevant, but rather what position they play. Mr. Irrelevant has been a defensive player in five of the last six years, but since 2001, Mr. Irrelevant has been a tight end five times, more than any other position. So, which will it be this year? Read on for the NFL betting odds, favorites, and our best bets from the field!
Highlights
- According to sportsbooks, Mr. Irrelevant is more likely to be an offensive player
- Since 2001, Mr. Irrelevant has been a tight end five times, more than any position
- WR and D-Line/Edge are tied atop the leaderboard with +400 odds
2026 NFL Draft Futures: Position of Mr. Irrelevant NFL Betting Odds & Picks
All betting odds provided by Betway.
Mr. Irrelevant has been a defensive player in five of the last six years (two LBs, one safety, one CB, one DE), with 49ers star QB Brock Purdy being the lone exception. Despite that recent history, sports betting sites are more bullish on Mr. Irrelevant being an offensive player at the 2026 NFL Draft, with offense boasting a slight advantage at -140 odds.
And if the Broncos hold that selection, we would agree: Broncos head coach Sean Payton has had 19 drafts as a head coach, and he’s taken an offensive player with his final selection in 13 of those drafts, a defensive player in five, and a special teamer once. We’d go with the favorite here.

| Offensive Lineman | +450 |
| Running Back | +600 |
| Cornerback | +700 |

The Favorite: Wide Receiver & D-Line/Edge (+400)
Atop the odds board are two of the premier positions in the NFL these days: wide receiver and defensive line. The guys that catch the QBs passes, and the guys that chase the QB. It makes sense. Mr. Irrelevant hasn’t been a wideout since 2018, but there were four such Mr. Irrelevants from 2003-2018, tied for most of any position over that span. Considering there are usually more wideouts on a roster than any other specific position, it’s not a bad bet at +400.
The defensive line also encompasses a lot of players as well, which is why we think it might be the best bet on the board. This includes nose tackles, defensive tackles, defensive ends, and outside linebackers. That’s a group that can often encompass more than half of a team’s players on the defensive side of the ball, about 15-20 guys. With those numbers, the math says d-line/edge is the way to go with this futures betting market.
The Best of the Rest: Tight End (+1,600)
If you want to go for a long shot, we really like the value tight end is offering. Since 2001, Mr. Irrelevant has been a tight end five times, more than any other position. It’s also worth noting that Broncos head coach Sean Payton is an offensive guy, and he loves himself a tight end.
Right now he’s got four on the roster, but only two are real contenders to make the final 53, so a flier on a tight end late could definitely be in the cards. Payton has taken an offensive player with his final pick in the draft 13 of 19 times.
