Chelsea vs Bournemouth Analysis
The Blues have shown real promise at times this season, but they’ve struggled to string together positive results on a weekly basis. Xabi Alonso’s men currently sit in 10th place in the Premier League table, compiling a 2-1-2 record through five games. Scoring has been no issue with 10 goals, but Chelsea have conceded a league-worst 12 times. That defensive vulnerability must improve if this side is going to have any shot at returning to the Champions League next season.
A lengthy international break certainly gave the Blues time to regroup, but it was a busy one for most of their players with their respective countries. It’s a quick turnaround as well after returning from international duty mid-week, and while Bournemouth is in poor form, they’re never an easy team to face. In fact, the last three meetings have ended level. But Chelsea desperately needs three points after going winless in their last two games.
The Cherries lost their manager to Liverpool this past summer and have yet to really find their groove under new boss Marco Rose. Bournemouth sit 17th with a poor 0-3-2 record, scoring just six times while conceding eight. However, despite the lack of a win, the Cherries haven’t looked uncompetitive.
Rose’s group pushed the Reds to the brink in their final game before the break, and they also lost by just one goal to Manchester City. Bournemouth have also notched a couple of cup wins, beating Lincoln City in the League Cup and Real Sociedad in the Europa League. The Cherries are no pushovers, and it feels like they’re on the doorstep of their first Premier League win of the campaign.
Chelsea vs Bournemouth Injury News
Chelsea have several notable absentees, with João Pedro and Jamie Gittens ruled out through injury. Cole Palmer, Moisés Caicedo, and Reece James are also dealing with fitness issues and remain doubts for Saturday's clash. Emmanuel Emegha and Marco Palestra are additional concerns for Xabi Alonso.
Bournemouth are also dealing with a lengthy injury list. Alex Scott has been ruled out with a thigh injury, while Justin Kluivert, Eli Kroupi, and Julián Araujo remain sidelined. Amine Adli and Veljko Milosavljević are also fitness concerns heading into the trip to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea vs Bournemouth Picks
Both sides are dealing with several notable injuries, and little has separated these two in recent memory. Chelsea’s vulnerabilities at the back are clear, and Bournemouth has shown promise. I’ll take another draw.
