Chelsea vs Manchester City Analysis
It’s been a disappointing campaign for Chelsea, who are likely going to miss out on European football altogether, with minimal Premier League games left. They’ve already gone through two managers this term, and the club has looked incredibly inconsistent. However, the FA Cup has been one of the lone bright spots for them, and Saturday is a clear opportunity to win a much-needed piece of hardware.
While the Blues haven’t won many games in recent weeks, they did secure a convincing victory against Leeds on April 26 in the semis, courtesy of a 22nd-minute goal from Enzo Fernandez. Chelsea has won the FA Cup eight times in their history, but the last time was in 2018. Beating a Man City side that has absolutely run riot on them over the past few seasons won’t be easy.
The Cityzens remain in the Premier League title race, and a cup double is still possible after recently winning the Carabao Cup. City was in the FA Cup Final last season as well, but they were shocked by Crystal Palace. Pep Guardiola’s men showcased their best in the quarterfinals when they hammered Liverpool 4-0, then followed it up with a victory over Southampton in the last four.
The Saints did not make it easy for City, though, scoring the opener in the 78th minute. But the Sky Blues stormed back shortly after, with Jeremy Doku and Nico Gonzalez scoring twice within a span of just five minutes. Man City is enjoying a nine-game unbeaten run across all competitions, with two victories over Arsenal during that span. They also just took down Palace 3-0 on Wednesday, so it’s a quick turnaround here.
Chelsea vs Manchester City Injury News
Chelsea are still without Estevao Willian (knee), Jamie Gittens (hamstring), and Jesse Derry (head), but there is better news elsewhere as Robert Sanchez, Pedro Neto, and Alejandro Garnacho have all returned to training and could feature on Saturday. Reece James is also in contention after training well this week, while Enzo Fernandez and Joao Pedro are both expected to keep their places in attack.
Man City’s only real injury concern remains Rodri, who is still battling a groin issue and remains doubtful after missing the last five matches. Nico Gonzalez is fit again after sitting out against Crystal Palace, while Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku, Rayan Cherki, and Nico O’Reilly are all expected to return to the starting XI.
Chelsea vs Manchester City Picks
I simply cannot ignore Man City’s track record against a Chelsea team that has looked disastrous at times over the last couple of months. City is in phenomenal shape, and the Blues are not. Pep’s men will cruise to victory.
