Florida vs Miami Analysis
It hasn’t been a great start to the campaign for one of the most prestigious programs in college football. The Gators are 1-2 so far, losing to LSU and South Florida, while beating Long Island in their other game. When tested with solid opponents, Florida has yet to show up and get the job done. Facing Miami won’t be any easier. The LSU game was an utter nightmare for Billy Napier’s squad, especially when it came to their quarterback. DJ Lagway threw an astounding five interceptions.
Lagway has completed 71% of his passes, but he’s thrown more picks (6) than touchdowns (5). The Tigers clash was arguably his worst college game, and he’ll be eager to rebound in a crucial game for both Florida and Napier, whose job is under pressure. The Gators also started the 2024 season with a 1-2 record, and sit in danger of falling to 1-3 unless they can pull off an upset in Miami Gardens.
Mario Cristobal has the Hurricanes looking like a legitimate College Football Playoff contender right now. While they did lose Cam Ward to the NFL as he went No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans, Miami managed to lure in former Georgia signal-caller Carson Beck as his replacement. Beck has looked good through three games, helping this team take down National Championship finalists Notre Dame in Week 1.
Beck has completed 79.3% of his throws for 812 yards and seven touchdowns against two interceptions. He has numerous weapons at his disposal, but it was the running back room who stole the show in Week 3 against South Florida. They rushed for 205 yards, with Mark Fletcher Jr. accounting for 120. Defensively, Miami has a stellar D-Line who will be looking to make Lagway’s life more of a nightmare on Saturday evening. Florida’s offensive line is the best in the SEC though, so the Canes have their work cut out for them as well.
Florida vs Miami Picks
Lagway was the top QB in the 2024 class, but he hasn’t looked the part. Coming off a 5-INT performance, Miami is the last team he’ll want to see. Beck is steady, experienced, and has Miami firing on all cylinders. Hurricanes cover.
