The Oilers are a -127 Game 6 favorite at NHL betting sites. The Ducks, who have won both games in this series at home, return at +100 odds.
The O/U is set at seven goals, and the Over has hit in four of the five games so far. Defense has not been a common storyline, and we can expect lots of offense on display again.
Ducks vs Oilers Game 6 Analysis
The Ducks may have been a lower seed heading into these Stanley Cup Playoffs, but they’ve made quite a statement in the first round. Taking a 3-1 series lead on a team as talented as the Oilers isn’t easy, but Anaheim’s offense has thrived. Between Games 2 and 4, the Ducks scored a mind-boggling 17 goals. Jackson LaCombe has led the way with eight points in the series, while Cutter Gauthier and Ryan Poehling have scored a team-best three goals apiece.
Anaheim has exposed Edmonton’s blue line and goaltending issues, putting 13 goals in across Games 2 and 3 alone. But they were shut down in Game 5 on Tuesday, scoring just once. However, the chances were still there. The Ducks outshot the Oilers 30-20. Connor Ingram was just simply much better in between the posts, making 30 saves.
The Oilers aren’t used to being on the brink of elimination this early in the playoffs, but we’ll call it character development for a team that knows how to step up. With their season at stake in Game 5, Edmonton delivered behind a two-goal game from Leon Draisaitl. Connor McDavid also got in on the action after a relatively quiet series so far, notching a pair of helpers.
It’s clear that the Oilers haven’t been at their best in the first round, especially defensively. Nevertheless, this team has more than enough offensive firepower to turn this series on its head and force Game 7. After all, the Ducks were 29th in the NHL in goals allowed during the regular season, and they were also one of the worst teams on the penalty kill. If Edmonton is going to win this series, though, they will need Draisaitl and McDavid to set the tone.
Ducks vs Oilers Game 6 Picks
The better team isn’t ahead in this series. That doesn’t mean that Anaheim can’t ultimately advance, but Edmonton found some momentum in Game 5, and the visitors will keep it rolling on Thursday in Orange County.
