Fulham vs Manchester United Analysis

Fulham's start to the Premier League season has been disappointing, with the Cottagers taking just one point from their opening four matches. They began the campaign with a narrow 3-2 defeat to Chelsea before falling 1-0 to Sunderland and 3-2 to Crystal Palace. However, their performance at Anfield last weekend was far more encouraging, holding Liverpool to a scoreless draw. Fulham followed that up with another positive result in midweek, beating West Ham 3-2 in the EFL Cup to advance to the next round.

The Cottagers have scored only four league goals so far, but their underlying numbers suggest they have created more than the results indicate. Fulham has generated 6.18 xG across its opening four matches, although an 8.10 xGA highlights the problems at the other end of the pitch. Seven goals conceded in four league outings is a concern, but consecutive encouraging performances should give the hosts some confidence heading into Sunday's matchup.

Man United hasn't exactly enjoyed a convincing start, either. Michael Carrick's side has a 1-1-2 record through four league matches, with its lone victory coming in a 5-2 win over Ipswich Town. United followed that result with a 2-2 draw at Everton before losing 1-0 to Manchester City last weekend, despite playing with an extra man for a significant portion of the derby. The Red Devils then suffered another setback on Wednesday, squandering an early two-goal advantage in a 3-2 EFL Cup defeat to Brighton.

There are still reasons for optimism offensively. United has scored seven goals in four Premier League matches and produced 8.58 xG, while Bryan Mbeumo has made an immediate impact with two league goals. However, defensive lapses continue to hurt the Red Devils, who have also conceded seven times. With neither side entering this contest in particularly convincing form, Sunday's matchup at Craven Cottage could prove to be a tightly contested affair.

Fulham vs Manchester United Injury News

Kenny Tete has been ruled out after entering concussion protocol, while Tom Cairney is also unavailable. Ryan Sessegnon has missed Fulham's last two matches with a groin issue but could return to the squad against United.

Matthijs de Ligt, Amad Diallo, Manuel Ugarte, and Tom Heaton remain sidelined. Luke Shaw has a chance to return after missing the last three matches, while summer signing Carlos Baleba is back in training and could be available to make his United debut.

Fulham vs Manchester United Picks

The Red Devils have had lots of success against Fulham in recent memory, but I really like how the hosts are playing, and I firmly believe they can give the visitors a run for their money on Sunday. I’ll take a hard-fought draw, and considering the defensive issues on both sides, I also like the Over.
