Responsible Gambling Council survey provides insight into Ontario Super Bowl LIX bettors
Half of Ontarians planning to bet on Super Bowl LIX plan on betting online with a sportsbook, according to a survey from the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC). With Super Bowl LIX scheduled for February 9, a betting survey was conducted using Leger’s online panel from November 22 to December 6 in 2024. According to the RGC survey, 30 per cent will bet with friends and family. 27 per cent will buy sports-based lottery tickets. And 20 per cent will bet in a pool.
The Super Bowl is one of the biggest sports events every year. The survey revealed that 63 per cent of Ontarians plan to watch Super Bowl LIX. Almost half, 48 per cent, of Ontario viewers will place a wager on the game. The report also revealed how much Ontario bettors plan to bet; 55 per cent said they will bet $100 or less, 19 per cent said they will bet between $101 to $500, and 8 per cent said they plan to wager more than $500.
Who will be betting and how many bets will they make?
Men and women are similarly likely to watch Super Bowl LIX, according to the RGC. But men are more likely to bet at 49 per cent, women at 45 per cent. Ontarians who are 45+ are more likely to bet on the Super Bowl at 52 per cent than those who are 18-44 at 45 per cent.
How many bets will they make? According to the survey, 55 per cent said they will bet one time on the outcome of the game. 25 per cent said they will bet more than once throughout the game with one of the sports betting sites. 15 per cent said they will bet using several sportsbooks.

- 48 per cent will bet to win money, 47 per cent to add excitement to the game
- 23 per cent of Ontarians betting on a sportsbook will use money limit-setting tools, 33 per cent don’t plan on managing their betting with any features
According to the RGC, a probability sample of the same size would yield a margin of error of +/-2.9%, 19 times out of 20.
