Odds Movement
Big games from Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Justin Jefferson, Zay Flowers, and Chris Olave (the latter two of which were our two favourite preseason bets) saw all their odds drop below +1,000. The only other guys up there are Ja'Marr Chase and Puka Nacua, who both saw their odds rise after disappointing Week 1 performances.
A.J. Brown's injury means he's likely going to be out of the race before it really even began. Drake London and DeVonta Smith also massive odds spikes after anemic performances form them and their offences in Week 1.
Preseason Best Bet: Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings (+1,200)
Recency bias has done a number on most people’s perceptions of Justin Jefferson. The guy is still very much elite and should be in that top three conversation. He just had to deal with shocking QB play last year. But whenever he has even just a solid QB at the controls, Jefferson is right in the mix at the top of the receiving yards pile.
In three full years with a healthy Kirk Cousins, he finished with 1,400 (fourth), 1,616 (2nd), and 1,809 (1st). In 2023 Jefferson had 1,000 yards despite playing in just 10 games, finishing second in yards per game with 107.4. In 2024, when Sam Darnold had his renaissance, Jefferson finished with 1,533 yards, good for second in the league.
Kyler Murray is a solid QB. Recency bias may be impacting how people view him as well. He’s got a ton of talent, he just didn’t have the right motivation and situation in the desert. Now, here in Minnesota with no distractions and a proper QB whisperer in head coach Kevin O’Connell, he will shine.
Murray knows how to feed top guys when he has them at his disposal too: DeAndre Hopkins was third in receiving yards in 2020 with Murray (1,407) and Trey McBride was fed 111 receptions in Murray’s final full season with Arizona.
Preseason Long Shot Dark Horse Candidate: Chris Olave, New Orleans Saints (+2,200)
If +1,200 odds aren’t juicy enough for you, here’s an even longer shot: Chris Olave. He has recorded 1,000+ yards in each of his three full seasons in the NFL, putting up a career-high 1,163 (good for seventh in the NFL) last year as Tyler Shough came to the fore at QB.
Shough is locked in as the starting QB for the Saints now. And we expect them to pass the ball a lot, as their top two backs in Travis Etienne and Alvin Kamara are almost pass-first backs themselves.
Shough also looked great in his nine starts, and he had a great connection with Olave: the former Buckeye had 82.5 yards a game with Shough compared to his 72.7 mark for the entire season. Across a full campaign, that’s over 1,400 yards, and his 82.5 per game would have ranked fifth last year.
