Football season has begun, and the NFL betting markets are already hot. Now, one of the biggest brands in American football is looking to capitalize on that momentum.
BetMGM has signed a multi-year agreement to become the Minnesota Vikings’ official sports betting and online casino partner in Canada, giving the operator access to Vikings team and player marks for betting, casino and marketing activities in Ontario and Alberta. The deal also includes the launch of an exclusive Vikings-themed casino game in both provinces.
The NFL remains one of the most valuable properties in the sports betting industry, while Canada’s regulated market is becoming increasingly competitive. For BetMGM, the Vikings agreement therefore gives the operator a team-specific way to turn football fandom into both sportsbook and casino engagement at a time when competition for customers is intensifying.
Highlights
- BetMGM has partnered with the Minnesota Vikings as the NFL team’s official sports betting and online casino partner in Canada.
- The agreement covers Ontario and Alberta, allowing BetMGM to use Vikings team and player branding across betting, casino and marketing activities.
- The partnership includes a Vikings-themed casino game, strengthening BetMGM’s presence as Canada’s regulated iGaming market continues to grow.
BetMGM brings Vikings to Canadian bettors
Under the agreement, BetMGM can use official Minnesota Vikings team and player marks throughout its Canadian betting, casino and marketing operations in Ontario and Alberta.
The operator has also launched Vikings Big Kick LuckyTap, an exclusive casino game developed with Design Works Gaming. The football-themed title allows players to chase jackpots by kicking a virtual football through goalposts at a recreation of U.S. Bank Stadium, giving BetMGM another way to connect the Vikings brand with casino play.
That casino component is particularly important. While the partnership is being announced around the start of the NFL season, it’s not simply a sports betting sponsorship. BetMGM is using the Vikings brand across two major gambling verticals, creating a broader funnel from football fandom to casino engagement.
That fits the direction of the Canadian market. The Ontario sports betting and online casino figures in July showed that casino wagering accounted for roughly 89% of total regulated wagering, with casino non-adjusted gross gaming revenue reaching a record C$330.4 million. Sports and other betting generated C$992 million in wagering during the month.
NFL and sports betting are now inseparable
The agreement also highlights just how dramatically the NFL's relationship with sports betting has changed. The league once treated gambling as a significant threat to the integrity of its games. That stance has evolved into a tightly controlled commercial relationship.
In 2021, the NFL announced its first U.S. sportsbook partnerships with Caesars, DraftKings and FanDuel. BetMGM subsequently became an approved NFL sportsbook operator and expanded that relationship into Canada in 2022.
The NFL's latest deals demonstrate how deeply betting has become embedded in the league's business model. Ahead of the 2026 season, the league renewed partnerships with DraftKings and FanDuel and added Fanatics as a sportsbook partner. Those agreements include promoting sportsbook bonuses, real-time statistics, NFL digital integrations and appearances at major events including the Super Bowl and NFL Draft. The partners have also agreed to work with the league on responsible gaming and restrictions around objectionable wagers, including bets connected to officiating and injuries.
The scale of the audience explains the attraction. The American Gaming Association estimated that legal U.S. sportsbooks handled approximately $30 billion in NFL wagers during the 2025 season.
What the Vikings deal means for BetMGM
BetMGM is a joint venture between MGM Resorts International and Entain and combines sportsbook, casino and other online gaming products under the MGM brand. Its sportsbook offers NFL markets ranging from traditional moneylines and spreads to player props, futures and live betting.
The operator was already established in Ontario after launching there in 2022. Alberta represents a much newer opportunity, with the province opening its regulated private-operator market on July 13, 2026, making it only the second Canadian province after Ontario to establish an open competitive iGaming framework.
That makes the Vikings partnership especially useful in Alberta. BetMGM is entering a market where major operators are competing for attention from scratch, and a recognizable NFL team gives it an identity that generic sportsbook advertising cannot easily replicate. The Minnesota connection may also have particular relevance in Ontario, which shares a border with Minnesota around Lake Superior and contains an established population of NFL fans.
The bigger picture for Canadian sports bettors
Ontario's record July figures show that Canada's regulated market is still capable of substantial growth, while Alberta is adding another major jurisdiction for private operators. At the same time, operators are facing rising competition for customers and increasingly need differentiated products, brands and partnerships rather than simply larger promotional budgets.
The Vikings deal fits that strategy almost perfectly. BetMGM is buying an association between a recognizable sports brand and an entire digital gambling ecosystem. For Canadians, that means the 2026 NFL season is arriving with another layer of commercial integration. For BetMGM, it is a chance to turn one of America's most recognizable football brands into a Canadian customer-acquisition tool.
