As a wise young man once said: life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you might miss it. And that’s even more true now than it was in 1986. The New York Knicks just won their first NBA title in over 40 years last week. But outside the five boroughs, we’re already moving onto next season mentally.

That’s what Ontario sportsbooks have done: they already have dozens of futures betting markets available for the 2026-2027 NBA season mere days after the 2025-2026 campaign came to a close. One of the most popular of those markets will obviously be for the winner of the 2027 NBA MVP award.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won it two years running. But can he make it three, or will the field return to the fore? Read on for our way too early odds, favourites, and best bets for the 2027 NBA MVP futures betting market!

Highlights

  • Victor Wembanyama has usurped SGA as the favourite to win MVP in 2027
  • SGA sits second on the odds board with +350 odds to win his 3rd straight MVP
  • There are only five players with odds shorter than +1,500

The Favorite: Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs (+200)

This one should come as no surprise. Victor Wembanyama was in and around the MVP chat all season during the last campaign, and he’s only going to get better. Remember, he is only 22 years old still. And after the way he was bodied by Karl-Anthony Towns in a lot of that five-game 2026 NBA Finals series loss, we think he’s going to take a massive step forward next year.

He’s going to pack on some muscle, and that could lead to a jump like we saw from Giannis Antetokounmpo about a decade ago. Imagine if Wemby had Giannis’ strength? He would be unstoppable. And we think he’s going to get there, or close to it, during the 2026-2027 campaign.

He’s a rare two-way superstar these days. Even Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the two-time defending MVP, wouldn’t tell you he’s locking guys up defensively. Same goes for Nikola Jokic. But Wemby is arguably better on the defensive end than he is on the offensive end. And he still averages 25 points a game.

San Antonio will remain near the top of the NBA standings next year, and that means Wemby will and should be in the discussion for MVP right up until the end. But while we think Wemby is the likeliest choice to win MVP, the +200 odds are not the kind of value you want in a long-term futures bet like this four months before the season even tips off.

Our Best Bet: Nikola Jokic (+450) or Luka Doncic (+650)

So instead, we’re looking at the two former Yugoslavians in Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic. The Serbian and Slovenian are offering up +450 and +650 odds, respectively. Not massive, but very reasonable odds for a long-term futures bet like this. Jokic is always in the mix for MVP, and we think he might be in for a bounce back season after a bit of a down year for him and the Nuggets.

Meanwhile, Luka Doncic has seemingly been on the cusp of an MVP season for half a decade now. And he still hasn’t sniffed one. Could this be his time? It certainly seems like LeBron James is going to continue receding into the background as this becomes Doncic’s team, so if he can keep them in the top three in the West while putting up his usual 30+ a night, he’d be great value at +650.

Dark Horse Candidate: Tyrese Haliburton, Indiana Pacers (+8,000)

If you want silly value when you make a futures bet like this, may we interest you in a Tyrese Haliburton? He is coming off a major injury, sure, but he’s had over a year to mend, and Jayson Tatum showed an Achilles injury isn’t what it used to be. The Pacers are a deep and talented team that could very well sit near the top of the East next season, and Haliburton will be at the controls.
