After a brutal Tarik Skubal injury recently, there will be a new American League Cy Young winner this season, and several candidates are emerging as we inch closer to the halfway mark of the 2026 campaign. New York Yankees youngster Cam Schlittler leads the way, but veterans Dylan Cease and Jacob deGrom aren’t far behind him. We’ll dive into the AL Cy Young futures below.

Highlights

  • Cam Schlittler currently leads the AL Cy Young race
  • Dylan Cease and Jacob deGrom remain in the mix

AL Cy Young Odds - Outright Winner

PlayerOdds
Cam Schittler+181
Dylan Cease+241
Jacob deGrom+301
Jose Soriano+1204
Kevin Gausman +3009
Drew Rasmussen+3009
Logan Gilbert+3009
Bryan Woo+3009
George Kirby+3511

Schlittler owns +181 odds at MLB betting sites. Cease, who is the ace of the Toronto Blue Jays’ staff, is right on his heels with +241 odds. deGrom also sits at +301, and if he can stay healthy for the Texas Rangers, the right-hander cannot be overlooked.

Cam Schlittler (+181)

Schlittler only made his MLB debut last season, making just 14 starts. But he was very impressive, posting a 2.96 ERA. While Schlittler had command issues at times, he’s fixed that up, and the 25-year-old is carving up opponents on a weekly basis. With Carlos Rodon recently back and Gerrit Cole still working his way through rehab, Schlittler has been key in leading this Yankees rotation. He owns an MLB-best 1.35 ERA through 10 starts, and he also has the second-best record in the big leagues, going 6-1. The Boston native has struck out 68 in 60 innings while walking just 11. He allowed 31 free passes in 73 frames last year. If Schlittler keeps pitching like this, the Cy Young will be his, and his only.

Dylan Cease (+241)

The Jays made the wise decision to sign Cease this past winter, and it’s been an incredible decision. The righty has been dealing, pitching to a 2.41 ERA and 3-1 record through 10 appearances. He’s one of the top strikeout pitchers in the sport, ranking second with 75 Ks in only 52.1 innings. Cease’s experience and ability to pitch deep into games help his Cy Young case. Cease has never won the prestigious award, but he was a runner-up in the NL Cy Young race in 2024, and he finished fifth in voting for the AL Cy Young in 2022.

Jacob deGrom (+301)

deGrom is no stranger to winning the Cy Young, taking home the award, winning in back-to-back season in 2018 and 2019 while a member of the New York Mets. But, he’s yet to win it in the American League, mostly due to injuries that have limited his time on the mound with the Rangers. That being said, deGrom is staying healthy, and he’s dealing. The 37-year-old has a 2.62 ERA and he’s struck out 57 in 44.2 frames while holding opponents to a .199 average. deGrom has only allowed more than three earned runs in a single start once this year, and that was against the Yankees two weeks ago. However, he followed that outing up with a scoreless start against the Chicago Cubs. If deGrom remains off the IL, he’s a legitimate threat to Cease and Schlittler in the Cy Young running.

AL Cy Young Futures Picks

Schlittler has shown no signs of slowing down. Even when the Yankees’ rotation is at full strength again, he’s still going to get tons of innings, and New York clearly has confidence in the young righty. ButI also like Cease, who is the main man for the Jays. At this point in the year, with both players sitting at plus odds, it’s worth a wager on each of them.

Pick: Cam Schlittler (+181), Dylan Cease (+241) /TonyBet
