White Sox vs Tigers Analysis
Chicago is having quite the season for a team that wasn’t expected to be a contender. They’re currently in first place in the American League Central, six games above .500. Whether it’s as the division winner or a Wild Card team, the postseason is a realistic possibility for the South Siders. The White Sox have been led by a solid offense that ranks seventh in the Majors in runs, averaging 4.8 per game.
The Sox are also fifth in homers and eighth in slugging, showing impressive power. Miguel Vargas, Colson Montgomery, and Munetaka Murakami have also clubbed 25+ home runs. While they haven’t been as great on the mound, Sunday’s starter, Sean Burke, has served as a reliable arm. The right-hander owns a 7-6 record and 2.99 ERA across 24 appearances. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his last three starts.
Detroit isn't having the same success and shifted its focus toward the future at the trade deadline. The Tigers parted ways with Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize, their top two starters. Detroit doesn’t expect to contend this season. Still, they remain firmly in the mix. AJ Hinch’s group enters Sunday in a three-way tie for the final AL Wild Card spot and sits only 4.5 games behind Chicago in the division.
Before this series, the Tigers were 4-1 in their last five games, even taking two out of three from a key divisional rival, the Cleveland Guardians. Salvaging at least one victory in this series is important if they’re actually going to catch Chicago, and Detroit will be hoping Drew Anderson can put his best foot forward here. The right-hander is also in good form, only allowing one earned run across his last three appearances. But he’s set to face a red-hot Chicago lineup.

White Sox vs Tigers Picks
It’s hard for me to overlook just how fantastic this White Sox offense is right now, carrying a 148 wRC+ in the last week into the finale. I’ll back Chicago to complete the sweep on the road at Comerica Park.
