If you've ever streamed a live NFL game, caught an EPL match on your phone, or tuned in for a marquee boxing night, there's a solid chance DAZN was your platform of choice. The global sports streaming powerhouse has quietly become the go-to destination for live sports across Canada, locking down rights to some of the biggest properties in the game, the NFL, MLB Network, all UEFA competitions, LIV Golf, and more. Canadians know the name. They trust the brand. And as of Tuesday, June 30, DAZN is asking a new question: do you want to bet on soccer, basketball, and football too?
DAZN Bet, the company's online Ontario sports betting and casino platform, officially went live on Tuesday, marking the brand's first-ever entry into the North American gambling market.
Highlights
- DAZN Bet launched in Ontario on June 30, 2026, offering Canadian players a sportsbook and full casino suite backed by one of the world's most recognized sports streaming brands.
- Unlike traditional Ontario operators, DAZN Bet's core proposition is the convergence of live sports streaming and betting, a model already live in European markets like the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
- Ontario is only the beginning. DAZN Bet has already secured its Alberta iGaming license and is set to enter that province's newly regulated market when it officially opens on July 13, 2026.
From Streams to Stakes
So why does this matter? Because DAZN isn't just another operator sliding into Ontario's already crowded iGaming market. There are currently 47 licensed commercial operators running 81 betting sites in the province. You've got the American giants, European powerhouses, digital offshoots of land-based casinos, and homegrown Canadian brands all fighting for the same eyeballs. DAZN Bet walks in with something most of them simply don't have: one of the most recognized sports brands on the planet already living on millions of Canadian devices.
DAZN Group CEO Shay Segev laid out the vision plainly at ICE 2026 in Barcelona back in January: "The convergence of sports media and betting is the future." That's not marketing fluff, iit's the actual architectural foundation of what DAZN Bet is built on. In European markets like Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK, where regulations allow it, DAZN already integrates live odds directly into its streams. You're watching the match, stats are rolling, highlights are queued, and if you want to place a bet, it's right there, no tab-switching, no second screen, no friction.
"When you go to DAZN, you go because you like sports," Segev added. "If you want to bet, it's completely optional… But if they can only watch it on DAZN, they should be able to bet on DAZN."
What Ontario Players Actually Get
For Ontario residents, DAZN Bet arrives with a sportsbook explicitly designed around Canadian preferences, alongside a full-suite casino featuring popular slots, table games, and live dealer options. The platform was built in partnership with Pragmatic Play, a pairing that was first reported back in April 2022, making this nearly a four-year journey to launch.
DAZN Bet CEO Valery Gelfman made it clear the company isn't chasing a quick cash grab. The goal is to enter "with a product designed for long-term sustainability," and the operator is leaning hard into responsible growth and strong compliance, the kind of language that resonates in a province where the AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario) takes its oversight seriously. DAZN received its AGCO license in January 2026, and while it took a little longer than the hoped-for Q1 debut, the wait appears intentional rather than delayed.
Managing Director of Canada Richard Rawlinson put it plainly: "Our focus is on responsible growth, strong compliance, and a customer experience that feels distinctly Canadian. This is the beginning of a long-term commitment to the country."
Ontario is just one stop. DAZN Bet already holds its Alberta iGaming operator license, secured in late May, and has confirmed it will expand into that province "in the near future," positioning itself as one of the early movers when Alberta launches its regulated commercial iGaming market on July 13. Alberta is modeling its framework closely on Ontario's successful rollout, and getting in on Day 1 of a brand-new market is the kind of first-mover advantage operators spend years chasing.
Why This Is a Big Deal Right Now
Ontario's iGaming market is maturing fast, and differentiation is becoming harder. FanDuel has deep roots in TSN broadcasts. PENN's theScore Bet is baked into the theScore sports media app. The integration of sports content and betting isn't a new idea, but no brand has yet delivered a truly unified, global watch-and-bet experience in Canada.
That's the gap DAZN is betting it can fill. The brand recognition is already there. The content rights are already there. The trust, arguably, is already there. Now it has the betting product to match. For Canadian sports fans who live inside the DAZN ecosystem, the pitch is almost deceptively simple: why leave?
