The UFC doesn’t have fights every single week of the year. But they’re darn close. This week might have been one of those weeks off, but they decided to put on a very light Fight Night card at the ol’ Apex, which is now sponsored by Meta. The main card doesn’t have a ton to offer, but the main event is a top 10 lightweight matchup that is actually really intriguing.

No. 6 lightweight contender Mateusz Gamrot will look to slow the roll of the No. 9 contender, the uniquely-dubbed Quillan Salkilld, (no nickname necessary) who has won 12 straight fights since losing his MMA debut in 2021. Can Gamrot stay relevant and win his second straight? Or will Quillan Salkilld stamp himself as a legit lightweight contender with a second straight win against a ranked opponent?

Read on for the latest UFC betting odds and predictions for the main event at UFC Fight Night 284. Oh, and don’t forget, this event at the Apex will start a little earlier, with the main card getting underway at 8 p.m. E.T. on Saturday, August 8.

Highlights

  • This Fight Night main card at the UFC Meta Apex will start a little earlier at 8 p.m. E.T.
  • Quillan Salkilld entered the lightweight top 15 after a 1st-round TKO of Beneil Dariush
  • Salkilld rides into this matchup with a 12-fight win streak

Mateusz Gamrot (26-4, 1 NC) has faced some top lightweights in recent years, including Dan Hooker, Charles Oliveira, and Beneil Dariush. Only thing is, he’s lost to all of them. He’s scored wins against Esteban Ribovics, Ludovit Klein, Rafael Fiziev, and the ghost of Rafael Dos Anjos, but those guys are a notch below.

Meanwhile, the Australian sensation, 26-year-old Quillan Salkilld (12-1), has won 12 straight dating back to his only loss in his very first pro MMA bout in 2021. He’s coming off an impressive TKO win over Dariush.

The Perth native comes in with a big size advantage, sporting a wicked 75-inch reach at 155 pounds. Gamrot has struggled against rangy fighters like that in the past, including Oliveira and Hooker. Salkilld will be too big for “Gamer” to take down, and the Australian is a darn good wrestler himself. We think the youngster continues his winning streak against Gamrot here, especially considering Salkilld also has nine years on his 35-year-old opponent.
