Odds Movement

Since May, there has been a decent amount of odds movement on this board. The favourite, Josh Allen, saw his odds rise from +550 to +650 and Lamar Jackson saw the same jump from +700 to +800. Joe Burrow made up a good bit of ground, dropping from +1,000 to +850, though we’re not sure what Burrow or the Bengals in general did to earn that improvement.

Patrick Mahomes, Drake Maye, and Trevor Lawrence all saw their odds rise a little bit, but Jordan Love was the one who saw his odds balloon the most, going from +1,500 to +2,000. Caleb Williams, Sam Darnold, Jalen Hurts, and Bo Nix all saw their odds shorten significantly over the course of the summer as well.

Our Best Bet: Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills (+650)

We were reticent to bet on Josh Allen back in the spring, but with his odds continuing to rise to a reasonable value, he has become our best bet here with just a couple weeks left until kickoff. He’s been in the conversation nearly every year since 2021, and he finally won one in 2024.

The addition of a bonafide WR1 in D.J. Moore cannot be understated: when Stefon Diggs was in town, Allen was putting up gaudy numbers every year. He’ll also have that improved ground game led by James Cook and one more year of chemistry with head coach Joe Brady, who was supposedly the QB’s choice to replace Sean McDermott last year.

Dark Horse Candidate: Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers (+1,800)

There are a couple of lesser long shots we like, such as Patrick Mahomes (+1,100), Caleb Williams (+1,200), and Dak Prescott (+1,200). But for a real long shot, we like San Francisco’s Brock Purdy. He could have easily won an MVP in 2023, but he was unrecognized back then and voters weren’t on board yet.

When he’s been healthy the last two years, he’s been putting up elite numbers. The 49ers are in a tough division, but if Purdy and CMC can stay healthy they can rise to the top of that group, and if they do that, they’re in discussion for the top seed. That would put Purdy right in the mix.
