Maple Leafs vs Panthers Analysis
The Maple Leafs have blown yet another 2-0 series lead and they’re now on the brink of elimination. In the first round, the difference was Toronto was able to still eliminate the inexperienced Ottawa Senators in six games. This matchup is a whole different story and the Leafs have fully allowed Florida to claw their way back into the series. Game 5 should’ve been where Craig Berube’s squad responded, especially at home, but it was the complete opposite.
Toronto was down 4-0 by the end of the second period, and their offense was nowhere to be seen. They had opportunities with 32 total shots on target, but Sergei Bobrovsky was as solid as can be in goal. William Nylander tallied six SOG on his own. It couldn’t have been a more disappointing showing for the Atlantic Division winners, and now they are on the brink of elimination in Florida’s arena Friday. It’s win or go home.
The Panthers are the defending Stanley Cup champions for a reason. Florida didn’t panic after falling into a 0-2 hole; they simply played their game and let the results speak for themselves. Paul Maurice’s team has outscored Toronto 8-1 across Games 4 and 5. They have all the momentum right now in the series and will be playing in front of their home fans with the chance to book a spot in the East Finals on Friday.
Six different players got on the scoresheet on Wednesday, including Sam Bennett, Dmitry Kulikov, and Jesper Boqvist. Four of their six scorers found the back of the net for the first time in these playoffs. It showed the depth the Panthers have. While Florida is definitely a confident team, going back to Scotiabank Arena for a potential Game 7 isn’t an ideal situation. They will be hoping to eliminate Toronto here.
Maple Leafs vs Panthers Game 6 Picks
Florida is rolling, and the Maple Leafs look dead. They’re also going to the penalty box far too often and haven’t been able to fix that issue. I’ll take the Panthers to finish up this series at home and continue their pursuit of another Stanley Cup.
