Uros Medic vs. Daniel Rodriguez Main Event Betting Odds
The UFC was hard-pressed to find a ranked Serbian fighter to headline this event, so they landed on unranked welterweight Uros Medic (13-3), who has, to be fair, been on a bit of a roll lately. He’s won his last three, all by knockout and all within 1.5 minutes. His most impressive was his most recent, a quick straight KO of Geoff Neal in February.
Daniel Rodriguez (20-5) will stand in the way of a fourth straight win for Medic. D-Rod is looking for his own fourth triumph in a row, as it happens. The 39-year-old has won two by decision and one by knockout during that streak, which includes his best win to date, a unanimous decision victory over Kevin Holland last July.
Medic is a massive -425 favourite here, and that does make sense. Both of these guys are brawlers that have also been stopped multiple times in the last few years. But Medic is 33 and Rodriguez is 39. Not to mention “D-Rod” is fresh off about a year stint in Mexican jail, which is why he hasn’t fought for so long. We’re not sure how that training camp would have gone.
But because of those odds there is absolutely no value on Medic. Even “The Doctor” to win via KO/TKO/DQ is -220. You can bet that if you want, but we think there is much better value in this fight to go over 1.5 rounds at +150.
Rodriguez may be on the back nine of his fighting career, but that also means he has experience. He’s fought some respectable names in the division including Ian Garry, Kelvin Gastelum, Neil Magny, Holland, Kevin Lee, and more. He was the third-to-last fight on the main card at UFC 318, his last time out.
Meanwhile, Medic has never even been on the preliminary card of a pay-per-view. Much less the main attraction for a Fight Night in his home country. The pressure is going to be on, and it might cause Medic to come out a little more cautious.
Rodriguez’s knockout power can’t be discounted, obviously, but we also think he’ll look to take Medic into the deep end and the later rounds. Medic has only gone to the third round once, and even there he got the finish.
Best Bet: Fight Total Rounds Over 1.5 (+150)
