Canada got a 1-1 draw in their opening match of World Cup 2026. And so did Qatar. But the latter team feels a lot better about it than the former. Canada will host Qatar in Vancouver at BC Place at 6 p.m. ET as both teams look to punch their tickets to the knockout stages of this massive tournament. Canada vs Qatar Analysis

Canada

Canada will have wanted to get a win against Bosnia in their first match. But considering they had been down 1-0 in that game and were able to come back to save a point, it’s really not that bad. Canada had a ton of chances in that one, and their best non-Alphonso Davies player, Jonathan David, had a pretty poor showing. He’ll settle into his role better on Thursday.

Team news: Moise Bombito (leg) returned to training. Superstar Alphonso Davies (hamstring) is expected to play in the World Cup, but manager Jesse Marsch has not said when he might make his debut after missing the Bosnia match. Davies was the only player not in training on June 15.

Predicted Lineup: Maxime Crepeau, Richie Laryea, Derek Cornelius, Luc de Fougerolles, Alistair Johnston, Ismael Kone, Stephen Eustaquio, Tajon Buchanan, Jonathan David, Cyle Larin.

Qatar

Qatar got battered around by Switzerland in their first match, but they were saved by an equalizing own goal in stoppage time. The Swiss were “playing with their food,” as it were. Qatar will be treasuring that point, and they will likely be a lot happier with another draw here than Canada would be.

Team news: No significant injury news.

Predicted Lineup: Mahmud Abunada, Ayoub Al-Oui, Pedro Miguel, Boualem Khoukhi, Homam Ahmed, Jassem Gaber Abdulsallam, Issa Laye, Edmilson Junior, Assim Madibo, Akram Afif, Yousuf Abdelrazzaq

Canada vs Qatar Stats and Trends

  • Qatar Trend: Qatar has scored in three of the last four matches they’ve played.

  • Cyle Larin Trend: The Southampton forward had scored just once in his previous 25 matches for Canada before his goal against Bosnia.

Canada vs Qatar Prediction

Both of these teams come into Matchday 2 with one point, one goal for, and one goal against. But Qatar and Canada are not equal in terms of quality. And that was clear in their opening matches of this World Cup.

While Canada had a tough 1-1 battle with Bosnia, Qatar was battered by the Swiss to the tune of six big chances and 3.2 xG in their 1-1 draw. They’re just lucky Switzerland couldn’t convert their chances.

However, betting sites in Canada have clearly caught onto this too, because the hosts are prohibitive favourites here at -370 odds. Canada will win, and if you like them enough to take them to win by 2+ goals at -118, go right ahead. We see more value elsewhere for our ultimate bet though.

Canada vs Qatar – The Ultimate Bet:

Both Teams To Score - Yes (+140)

Despite Qatar not showing a ton offensively against Switzerland, they did still score in the end. And they have scored in eight of their last 10 competitive matches dating back to the Arabian Gulf Cup in December 2024.

Canada, for their part, has allowed at least one goal in five of their last seven competitive games. Both teams finding the back of the net would be in keeping with the spirit of the tourney so far as well: as of this writing, 11 of the 16 World Cup games have seen both teams score. We simply couldn’t resist these +140 odds.
