The Favorites
Aidan Hutchinson, Detroit Lions (+500): Aidan Hutchinson is second on the odds board for the Defensive Player of the Year award, and he’s also the favorite to lead the league in sacks. Safe to say Vegas thinks this guy is going to have a big year. And honestly, we don’t really disagree. Hutchinson was great in his second year with 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and 14 TFLs.
In his third year in 2024, he seemed like he was going to really explode. He had 7.5 sacks and seven TFLs through just five games before he fractured his tibia and fibula, ending his season. He rehabbed so well that he reportedly nearly came back for the playoffs, however, and all signs point to him being better than ever in training camp. We don’t love throwing down on a favorite, but it feels like Hutch is great shout here.
Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys (+600): There is still a lot up in the air with Micah Parsons. He could be a sack king this year, but what if he holds out? Jerry Jones doesn’t seem to be budging, and at +600 odds at Canadian sportsbooks, there’s not enough value to take a chance on a guy that could have contract issues going right up to Week 1. T.J. Watt had 22.5 sacks in 2021 after a similar situation, it must be said, but that feels more like an exception than a rule. If Parsons signs his contract before the end of August, however, this is not a bad bet.
Myles Garrett, Cleveland Browns (+600): Myles Garrett has racked up a ton of sacks in his career, but he’s never led the league in sacks during a single season. Could that end this year? Well, we expect him to be part of the top pack, but as Browns tend to do, we believe he’ll fall just short again here. Plus we don’t think he should have the same odds as Parsons, even with the contract issue.
T.J. Watt, Pittsburgh Steelers (+700): While Parsons awaits his deal, T.J. Watt got his deserved new contract recently. Watt is one of just four players ever (Reggie White, Mark Gastineau, Deacon Jones) to lead the league in sacks in back-to-back years, doing so in 2020 and 2021. He also did it in 2023.
He’s shown he can put up big numbers in this category, and Pittsburgh’s improvements on the defensive interior could remove the ability for offenses to throw as many doubles and chips at Watt as they did last year. We like Watt here, though we wish books were offering just a tad more value.
Long Shot Value Bet
Maxx Crosby, Las Vegas Raiders (+1,400): Maxx Crosby missed a big chunk of last year, so his numbers were a little down. He was coming off back-to-back double-digit sack seasons prior to that, however, and he’s still very much in his prime. We believe he and the rest of this Raiders team will be rejuvenated by this overhaul they’ve undertaken this offseason. If this was a bet on the TFL category, Crosby would be a shoo-in, but we still like him as a dark horse here for sacks too.
