The Favorites
Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles (+260): There’s a reason this guy is such a short favorite for such a volatile market. Saquon Barkley heads into the 2025 season completely healthy and with all of his offensive line hogs returning to the fold as well. Barkley could definitely lead the league, but one small injury and these odds start to look kind of ridiculous. There’s just no value here for a preseason bet, though we do believe Barkley has a great shot if he stays healthy.
Derrick Henry, Baltimore Ravens (+450): It’s a pretty similar argument to Barkley for Derrick Henry. At +450 odds on most Ontario sportsbooks, he’s offering a little more value than Barkley, but less than half as much as the guy in third place. Both Henry and Barkley benefitted from a new environment last year, so they might cool off and return to the mean in 2025.
Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts (+1,000): With Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson in the battle for the starting QB job in Indy, you can expect Jonathan Taylor to get as much work as he can handle in 2025. And the big play threat of the Colts’ erratic passing attack means he’ll always have some space. If we were going to bet on one of the favorites, it would be Taylor, who also won the title in 2021.
Long Shot Value Bets
- Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit Lions (+1,500): This is a little bit of wishful thinking from us here. Like any NFL fan who tunes into the Lions from a neutral perspective from time to time, we love watching Jahmyr Gibbs play. He was fifth in rushing yards last year but 11th in carries, with just 250. He’s simply too dynamic to go a full season splitting carries with David Montgomery again. And considering he had 1,412 last year while splitting time, if he gets the lion’s share this year, he will be right in the mix for the rushing title.
- Ashton Jeanty, Las Vegas Raiders (+1,800): If we know anything about Raiders head coach Pete Carroll, it’s that he loves to run the ball. When he had an elite back like Ashton Jeanty in Seattle with Marshawn Lynch, he fed him. From 2011-2014 Lynch led the league in attempts (by nearly 100) and yards.
- From 2012-2023, the Seahawks were fifth in rushing attempts and third in yards. Jeanty was drafted No. 6 overall, so he is going to get a lot of opportunities. And believe it or not, six other rookies have won the rushing title since Earl Campbell did it in 1978, including most recently with Ezekiell Elliott (another top 10 pick) in 2016 and Kareem Hunt in 2017.
