The Favorites
Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals (+500): As is often the case with these markets, last year’s leader comes in as the favorite to do it again the next season. That’s the case here, with Joe Burrow the favorite to go back-to-back as the passing yards king. While he’s got a great situation to do it again, there are a few concerns.
One, is that the Bengals did not really fix their offensive line, and if Burrow gets hurt and misses even one game, it makes it very hard to lead the league in anything. The other worry is that no one not named Drew Brees has ever led the league in this category in back-to-back seasons since 1991. There has been a different passing yards leader for seven straight years, so we’re going to look elsewhere for value.
Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs (+900): We know Patrick Mahomes can put up big numbers. He’s thrown for 5,000+ yards twice in his career and over 4,700 in two others. He last led the league in 2022, and we like his chances to do it again this season.
It’s not often you get +900 odds on Mahomes from betting apps for anything. That Super Bowl loss was nothing short of embarrassing, and we expect him and the team to have a chip on their shoulder. No more sub-4,000 yard seasons for Mahomes. He probably has the best complement of receivers of his career, so look out for the three-time champ this season.
Jared Goff, Detroit Lions (+1,100): Jared Goff has not missed a game in three years, which is crucial because to lead the league in anything, you have to play every game. Last year, Goff finished second (as he did the previous year as well) in the league with just over 4,600 yards. He has increased his passing yardage total in each of the four years he’s been in Detroit. If that trend holds, he’ll be in the 4,700-4,800 range in 2025, which could be good enough to pace the NFL.
Long Shot Value Bets
- Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1,400): The No. 3 passer last season with 4,500 yards, Baker Mayfield was also fifth in passing attempts for an offense that is likely to stay in the air most of the time this season. The addition of Emeka Egbuka to an already stacked receiving corps also helps his case.
- Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears(+3,000): Caleb Williams has a great set of receivers and an even better coach and play-caller in Ben Johnson. Williams and the Bears as a whole could really explode this season.
