The Favorites
Ben Johnson, CHI (+600): Of all the available futures betting markets for the next NFL season, this is probably the favorite that we like the most. Ben Johnson is in a perfect position to win COY considering the Bears were awful last year, and he’s had a lot of publicity surrounding his arrival and the team’s subsequent offseason turnaround, which was done very shrewdly. Not to mention that +600 odds are about as good as you’ll find for a favorite in these NFL futures.
Mike Vrabel, NE (+850): The new head coach of the Patriots is second in the odds rankings, but we’re not sure this roster is quite ready, even if Mike Vrabel is a COY-caliber coach. Working against him is the fact that he already won the award in 2021. There has only been one repeat winner for this award in the last decade. We’d say wait a year on this one. He should be a great shout in 2026.
Liam Coen, JAX (+1,000): This is one of the biggest surprises on the board, with Liam Coen sitting with the third-shortest odds. Coen is a first-year coach, which bodes well, but the Jaguars still seem like a bit of a mess even with the excitement surrounding Travis Hunter. They are in a terrible division, which could help Coen, but we just don’t see him or the Jags being in the running for anything in 2025.
Long Shot Value Bets
- Dave Canales, CAR (+1,400): The Panthers, and QB Bryce Young especially, looked a lot better under the young Dave Canales last year. In his second year at the helm, he could lead them to a division title, which would give him a great chance at the award.
- Pete Carroll, LV (+1,500): When the Raiders brought Pete Carroll in, they also bought into his strategy: strong defense and merciless running game. He seems to have made the moves to have success like that, and if he wins the AFC West, he’ll be a shoo-in.
- Jim Harbaugh, LAC (+2,000): Jim Harbaugh usually sees a major jump in success in his second year in a job. When he was with the 49ers, he took the team to the Super Bowl in his second year after winning COY in his first. Like Carroll, if his Chargers can overthrow the Chiefs, it’ll be hard to argue with him for the award.
