One regular preseason game in and we already have our first major injury. NFL football is truly back, baby. (Though of course, we hope that Anthony Richardson will be okay.) That means that we have precious little time to get our NFL futures bets in. We’ve covered a lot of individual markets recently, but here, we’ll focus on the NFC and the postseason.

The NFC as a conference is very top heavy. There is one division (the NFC North) which has four teams that could legitimately make the playoffs. The rest don’t have a ton of competition at the top. That’s why we found the most value in the NFC North. Here, we take a look at the betting odds for each NFC team to make the playoffs, or not.

Highlights

  • The Saints have the longest odds in the NFC to make the playoffs (+800)
  • The champion Eagles have the shortest odds in the NFC to make the postseason (-400)
  • 3/4 NFC North teams are favored to make the playoffs, but not the three we like

Top Picks

Detroit Lions - Yes (-185): We’re not sure how these odds are below our -200 odds threshold, but they are, so we’re not going to think on this one too much. The Lions have the fifth-shortest odds to win the Super Bowl, so they’re a pretty good bet to make the postseason. Obviously, -185 is not in our usual range for futures bets, but for these Yes/No propositions, the odds are far tighter. The Lions have won this division for two seasons running, and even with the strength behind them, we like them to do it again, so -185 odds are quite the steal.

Green Bay Packers - No (+100): On the flip side, we like the Packers to miss out on the postseason for the first time in the Jordan Love era. And at plus odds too, which is nice. While Vegas believes the Packers are among the three NFC North teams to make the playoffs, we’re of a different mind. Green Bay is solid, but they’re not as well-rounded or exciting as their division-mates.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Yes (-160): These odds aren’t quite as surprising as the Lions ones, but we’re still chuffed to see the Bucs offering this much value at Canadian sportsbooks. The NFC South is rapidly improving—but so is Tampa Bay. Their offense could be the best in the league, and they’re gonna be a ton of fun to watch. We don’t see Bryce Young or Michael Penix challenging Baker Mayfield just yet.

Minnesota Vikings - Yes (-110): If you really take a good look at this roster, you start to realize that they have no holes. None. Not even in the coaching staff. Well, unless you consider J.J. McCarthy a hole at QB. While we don’t think he’ll be good enough to lead this Vikings roster to its Super Bowl potential this season, he’ll do enough to get them in the dance for sure.

Long Shot Value Bets

  • Chicago Bears - Yes (+175): Rather than the Packers, we think the Bears will sneak in as the NFC’s seventh and final seed. Caleb Williams literally could not have a better situation in front of him, and we think Ben Johnson has added in the perfect areas.
  • Los Angeles Rams - No (+135): Recent news about resurfacing issues with 37-year-old QB Matthew Stafford’s back could turn this into a rebuilding year for the Rams. If he misses extended time, Jimmy Garoppolo won’t lead this team to the postseason.
