The Favorite: Oklahoma City Thunder - 45-15 (1st in West) (+135 odds)
As you probably could have guessed, the OKC Thunder sit atop the odds table for this one. They have the best record in the league, they’re the defending champs, and their best player is once again the favorite to win MVP. But their odds are getting a little too short. The Thunder support system may be getting a little too cocky. A little too big for their britches. At this point in the season, anything can still happen, so odds this low on a future are no bueno here in late February.
Our Best Bet: Denver Nuggets - 37-22 (4th in West) (+600 odds)
The No. 2 favorite at most Canadian sportsbooks is Nikola Jokic’s Nuggets. They are middle of the pack in the West, but with their run and gun style (they have the highest scoring offense in the NBA at 120.5 points per game) and their excellent form on the road (21-11) they can hang with any team in the league.
If they meet SGA and the Thunder in the West Finals, we believe their coaching staff can figure out mismatches for Jokic as well as SGA. The Thunder are excellent, but we’re not sure they’re quite as good as handicappers are making them out to be.
Dark Horse Candidate: Houston Rockets - 37-21 (3rd in West) (+2,700 odds)
If you want more of a long shot dart throw, look no further than the Rockets. They have been very unpredictable and at times unreliable, but that’s what happens with a young team that is going through growing pains. They also already went through a playoff experience last year, losing a tough seven-game series to the Warriors.
So they are certainly ready to take it all the way this second time around. Most good young teams need that first playoff experience before they can go on a real championship run down the line. And 2026 is down the line for Houston. Especially considering they now have a certified killer and champion in Kevin Durant to pick up the slack when the pressure hits. Considering they’re third in the West, these +2,700 odds are offering an insane amount of value right now.
