The NFL is back this week, but the NBA won’t be too far behind. We’re now just under one month until the start of the 2025 preseason. With that in mind, we’re revisiting a few of the futures betting markets we took a look at right after last season’s Finals in June.

This time around, we’re going back to the odds for the outright winner (championship winner) futures market. Since the last time we took a look at this odds board the day after the NBA Finals wrapped up, a lot of teams have risen and fallen on the odds board due to everything from draft picks to free agent pick ups to trades to injuries.

Highlights

  • The Nuggets have jumped from 9th on the odds board to 3rd after a shrewd offseason
  • The Clippers, Pistons, and Bucks have seen their odds improve more than any others
  • Boston, Indiana, and San Antonio saw their respective odds worsen by double

Biggest Risers & Fallers

Denver Nuggets (+1,600 → +800): While other teams technically saw their odds shift, no one made a more noticeable move up the board than the Nuggets. In June, they were down in ninth on the board at most betting sites, behind the likes of the Lakers and Wolves.

However, Denver had arguably the best offseason in the league, losing a locker room cancer in Michael Porter Jr. and adding a litany of elite role players such as Bruce Brown, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Cam Johnson. Everyone said Denver’s issue last year was depth. They’ve addressed that and then some. Back in June we liked them as a long shot. We like them even more now.

Los Angeles Clippers (+3,300 → +2,000): It’s funny to see the Clippers’ odds improving so drastically considering the latest news about improper payments to Kawhi Leonard, but they did have a great offseason. Though they lost Norman Powell, they picked up a ton of solid veteran pieces to offset that departure. Bradley Beal, Chris Paul, and Brook Lopez actually fit in very nicely with what the Clippers have. Could this finally be the first over-the-hill gang to get it done since the 2008 Celtics?

Boston Celtics (+1,300 → +5,000): And speaking of the Celtics, they saw their odds drop more than anyone but the Pacers. It’s curious because in June, Jayson Tatum had already undergone his Achilles surgery, all but ensuring he would miss most of the 2025-2026 campaign. They did lose some key guys like Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, but they arguably got better with the addition of Anfernee Simons. This drop is curious, though we do agree that there is no chance they win a title without Tatum.

Milwaukee Bucks (+8,000 → +5,000): Back in June, it seemed very likely that Giannis Antetokounmpo would be gone by the start of the season. It seems he’s given the team one more season to set things right. They added Cole Anthony, Gary Harris, and a big fish in Myles Turner. They definitely got better.

San Antonio Spurs (+2,500 → +6,000): San Antonio was never going to win the championship this year, but they should be much improved. The only major loss they’ve had since June was Chris Paul, and we hardly think he’s still worth +3,500 in odds. We might stick a flier on this one out of protest.

Indiana Pacers (+4,000 → +8,000): Back at the end of June it was still uncertain whether Tyrese Haliburton would be done for the entire year due to his likely Achilles tear. It was probable, but not confirmed. Now that it has been confirmed and Myles Turner has also departed, these odds doubling is not surprising.
