Odds Movement
Even when he’s on bye, Patrick Mahomes is still extending his lead in the race for Comeback Player of the Year. He’s now a chalky -300 to win it. The next closest guys are Kyler Murray and Michael Penix Jr., who have both played well since coming back from early season injury and now sit in second, though way back at +1,400 odds. Fred Warner is in the race too, with his odds having dropped from +2,500 to +1,500 after a big 49ers win over the Seahawks in Week 5.
Preseason Best Bet: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs (+190)
Daniels and especially Murray have great chances to have bounce back seasons, but neither of them carry the starpower of Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. If Mahomes plays every game and the Chiefs make the playoffs or better yet win the tough AFC West, it doesn’t even matter how Mahomes plays.
Not that we even think he’s going to have a bad season. We think he could put up some gaudy numbers in 2026. And if that happens, this one will be a wrap by Thanksgiving. We know +190 isn’t great value for a preseason bet, but we’re surprised they’re even offering us that much juice in the first place. We’re taking this and running.
Preseason Dark Horse Candidate: Kyler Murray, QB, Minnesota Vikings (+550)
We know, we know, he’s second on the odds board. But there’s a reason all the QBs are right at the top: this is pretty much another QB award. Before Christian McCaffrey won last year, a signal caller had won CPOY for seven years running. 13 of the last 18 CPOY winners played QB, and we think that trend will return here in 2026.
So, if it’s not going to be Mahomes, the best odds you can get on a QB are +1,200 on Daniel Jones. And we’re not putting a future down on Danny Dimes. Daniels is also very fragile, and we really like the situation Murray is in right now. He’s got all he needs to succeed, and everyone knows he has the talent.
