There has been significant controversy around the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award in recent years. Who can win it? What qualifies someone for a “comeback”? That’s all been settled now, and it’s clearly an award for players returning from serious injury (or retirement, as we’ll discuss)
Read on for our updated look at the latest NFL betting odds for the 2026 Comeback Player of the Year futures betting market. We’ve also got analysis of the odds movement since we last looked at this market in April as well as a few of our favourite picks on the board!
Highlights
- In April Patrick Mahomes was alone under +1,000; there are now 4 players with those odds
- Before CMC won CPOY in 2025, a QB had won this award for 7 straight years
- The only defender to win it since 2008 was Eric Berry in 2015 after he beat cancer

Odds Movement
Much like with the Defensive Player of the Year odds table, Micah Parsons free-falling down this list is the thing that jumps out the most when you look at the odds. He’s looking at a midseason return most likely, which is why his odds sky-rocketed the third-shortest on the board at +1,200 to +2,500.
After winning the Vikings starting QB job (who saw that one coming) Kyler Murray saw his odds plummet to +550 from +1,000. He’s joined at +550 by Jayden Daniels, who didn’t even have odds on the board back in April. Aaron Donald, who just announced he’s unretiring, also jumps in at +700. We love Donald, but that’s definitely a stay away for us. A guy who hasn’t played in two years should offer a lot more value than +700.
Everyone else’s odds jumped significantly as well as it seems oddsmakers are honing in on the QB trio of Murray, Daniels, and favourite Patrick Mahomes as well as Donald as the only guys with real potential here.
Our Best Bet: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs (+190)
Daniels and especially Murray have great chances to have bounce back seasons, but neither of them carry the starpower of Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. If Mahomes plays every game and the Chiefs make the playoffs or better yet win the tough AFC West, it doesn’t even matter how Mahomes plays.
Not that we even think he’s going to have a bad season. We think he could put up some gaudy numbers in 2026. And if that happens, this one will be a wrap by Thanksgiving. We know +190 isn’t great value for a preseason bet, but we’re surprised they’re even offering us that much juice in the first place. We’re taking this and running.
Dark Horse Candidate: Kyler Murray, QB, Minnesota Vikings (+550)
We know, we know, he’s second on the odds board. But there’s a reason all the QBs are right at the top: this is pretty much another QB award. Before Christian McCaffrey won last year, a signal caller had won CPOY for seven years running. 13 of the last 18 CPOY winners played QB, and we think that trend will return here in 2026.
So, if it’s not going to be Mahomes, the best odds you can get on a QB are +1,200 on Daniel Jones. And we’re not putting a future down on Danny Dimes. Daniels is also very fragile, and we really like the situation Murray is in right now. He’s got all he needs to succeed, and everyone knows he has the talent.
