Just a couple of weeks ago we took a look at the way too early futures betting odds for the 2027 NBA champion. But with all that’s transpired across the NBA landscape over the last few days, we simply had to return to the odds board to see what kind of odds movement all that player movement had caused. And it’s quite a lot.

The San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder are more entrenched as the top two favourites than they were before. But behind them, chaos could reign. Read on as we go over all the major movers on the odds board, give you the updated NBA betting odds on the top 17, and pitch our new favourite darkhorse early in this 2026-2027 NBA championship race!

Highlights

Major Movers

At the top of the odds board, the defending-champion New York Knicks took a small dip from +600 to +750. Just behind them though, the Boston Celtics saw their odds double from +600 to +1,200 after they traded their second-best (or arguably best) player, Jaylen Brown, to the rival 76ers (more on them later). But even so, they still sit fourth on the chart thanks to a strong supporting contingent and belief that Payton Pritchard and Derrick White will step up further.

It also seems like the teams being most closely linked with LeBron James saw their odds shorten significantly just because of those rumors. Almost as if betting sites are trying to get ahead of the ball in case the King actually ends up there.

The favourites, the Golden State Warriors, saw their odds go from +5,000 to +3,500 and the second-favourites to land James, his old Cleveland Cavaliers, went from +3,500 to +2,800. Neither team really made any other moves to explain the odds movement. That is the power of the King.

The Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves both saw their probabilities rise after making blockbuster trades to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo and LaMelo Ball, respectively. The Heat went from +4,000 to +2,800, while the Wolves dropped from +3,000 to +2,500.

The Atlanta Hawks swooping in for Ja Morant also landed them on the top 16 at +6,500 after being down in the doldrums on this odds board just two weeks ago.

However, by far the biggest movers were the Toronto Raptors. Like the Hawks, they were not listed on our top 16 for this odds board a couple of weeks ago. But now, they sit tied in sixth with the Denver Nuggets at +2,200.

Kawhi Leonard may be 35, but now back with a team that knows how to take care of him and get the best out of him, he’s still a massive needle-mover. Toronto gave up a lot to get him, but they still kept Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, R.J. Barrett, Collin Murray-Boyles, Ja’Kobe Walter, and Jamal Shead, to name a few. Toronto has a ton of depth, which is perfect for a team trying to win with Kawhi’s rickety old knees.

Dark Horse Candidate: Philadelphia 76ers (+2,000)

We love the hometown Raptors obviously, but our favourite team on the board is just one spot above Toronto on the odds board: the 76ers at +2,000. They were on the cusp of our top 16 last time at +5,000, and now, after acquiring Jaylen Brown, they’re in the top five. Jaylen Brown is a legit superstar who has proven it on the biggest stage as an NBA Finals MVP.

Pair that with a healthy Joel Embiid, an exciting young backcourt of V.J. Edgecombe and Tyrese Maxey, and you’re cooking with gas. Oh, and did we mention the latest reporting suggests the 76ers are very much in on the LeBron James sweepstakes? If the King lands in the City of Brotherly Love, they could challenge the Spurs and Thunder for preseason odds supremacy.
