Mariners vs Blue Jays Game 6 Analysis
Seattle won’t be looking to get ahead of themselves, but they only need one win across these next two games in Toronto to book a date with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Fall Classic. It’s been a long time coming for the Mariners, who have never advanced past the American League Championship Series. It did look like they were about to lose three in a row at home before roaring back in the bottom of the eighth on Friday.
Cal Raleigh smacked a game-tying solo bomb to even the contest up at two before Eugenio Suarez eventually stepped up and cracked a Grand Slam. A smooth top of the ninth for Andres Munoz secured the victory for Seattle. They’ve yet to announce who will take the hill in Game 6, but there’s a chance it could be Logan Gilbert, who pitched in Game 2. He was one of the Mariners’ top starters during the regular season.
To be honest, no one could’ve predicted that Toronto would go out on the road and take two of three from Seattle in their own stadium. The Jays exploded in Games 3 and 4, scoring 21 runs combined while allowing just six. They had a 2-1 lead late in Game 5, but John Schneider decided to bring in Brendon Little, who completely unraveled. That being said, adversity is nothing new for this Jays group, who will be poised to bounce back as they return home.
The health of George Springer is concerning, though. He was plunked with a Bryan Woo fastball on the knee and was forced to exit early on Friday. X-rays came back negative, but it’s unknown if Springer will be ready to go on Sunday. He’s a crucial piece both on and off the diamond, and Toronto cannot afford to lose him. Schneider will put his trust in rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage in Game 6, who tossed four innings in Game 2, allowing five earned runs. It wasn’t his best outing.
Mariners vs Blue Jays Game 6 Picks
Despite losing the first two of this ALCS in Toronto, the Blue Jays were one of the best home teams in the Majors in the regular season. Again, this a resilient team, and they won’t have any shortage of motivation in Game 6. Toronto will force Game 7.
