Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid Odds

The Gunners are a heavy -162 home favorite at soccer betting sportsbooks. Atleti returns at +480. The O/U is set at 2.5 goals.

Prior to last week’s first leg, these two had only met twice previously, and it was in Europa. Atletico beat Arsenal in the 2018 semifinals.

Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid Analysis

The Gunners have a special opportunity to deliver the goods for their passionate supporters on Wednesday, and they come into this fixture in good form after allowing Manchester City back into the Premier League title race. Mikel Arteta’s side has won two straight domestic games, beating Newcastle and Fulham. They’ve also conceded just once across their last three matches across all competitions. Saturday’s 3-0 win over Fulham gave them much-needed momentum heading into this second leg.

The opening leg in Madrid was controversial, to say the least. Arsenal was initially given a penalty in the 78th minute that would’ve put the visitors up 2-1, but VAR officials ultimately overturned the call, despite there being clear evidence that Eberechi Eze was fouled. Arteta was furious post-match, as the Gunners were denied a clear advantage for this second leg. Regardless, they will be confident about getting a positive result on home soil.

Atletico has picked up its form in recent weeks after losing four straight games just before the first leg against Arsenal. Diego Simeone’s men are enjoying a three-match unbeaten run, winning back-to-back LaLiga outings against Athletic Club and Valencia. Cubo and Iker Luque produced the goods over the weekend against Valencia in what was an impressive display on both ends of the pitch.

Atleti hasn’t appeared in a Champions League final since 2016, and they’ve never won the competition. Beating Arsenal will be a tall task, but Simeone’s side fought hard last week, and their backline managed to keep the Gunners’ attack at bay. It will be another testy encounter, but eliminating Arsenal on home turf will be extremely difficult.

Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid Injury News

Bukayo Saka made an impact with a goal and assist against Fulham but was taken off at halftime as a precaution, and he should be ready to go for Tuesday. Martin Odegaard (knee) and Kai Havertz (muscle) are pushing to be available, although both remain slight doubts. However, Jurrien Timber (groin) and Mikel Merino (foot) are sidelined.

There was concern when Julian Alvarez limped off in the first leg, but scans confirmed no serious issue, and he is expected to start in North London. Giuliano Simeone, Alexander Sorloth, and Jose Gimenez have all been included in the squad despite minor concerns. The only confirmed absentees for Diego Simeone’s side are Pablo Barrios and Nico Gonzalez.

Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid Picks

Arsenal may look inconsistent at times in recent weeks, but they were impressive in the first leg, and the home advantage is huge. I’ll take them to secure a second leg victory in North London after being robbed last week of a first leg win.
