Ben Shelton vs Casper Ruud Odds
Shelton heads into this match as a -164 moneyline favorite at tennis betting sportsbooks. Ruud returns at +138.
Ruud actually has the upper hand in recent meetings, going 2-1 against the American. Their last meeting was in 2024, where the Norwegian beat Shelton in the Acapulco quarterfinals.
Ben Shelton vs Casper Ruud Analysis
Shelton may not be on the level of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, but he’s definitely one of the better players on the ATP Tour. He’s ranked No. 8 in the Australian Open, and he’s looked solid so far in the tournament, winning each of his first three matches in straight sets. Shelton had some success in Melbourne last year, making his first semifinal in the tournament, and he’s only a couple of victories away from reaching that stage once again. The only other Grand Slam he’s reached the semis in was the US Open, and that came way back in 2023.
The American youngster took care of the No. 30 ranked Vacherot quite convincingly, winning the third and final set in a tiebreaker. While he’s yet to win a Major title in his young career, Shelton is always a dangerous player, but he will be up against it on Sunday. Ruud has proven to be a tough opponent for Shelton, and his lack of success against him isn’t a great sign. Shelton hasn’t beaten him since 2022.
Ruud’s resume in Grand Slams is impressive, making three finals – two in the French Open, and one in the US Open. But, he hasn’t reached that stage in several years, with his last Major final coming in 2023. 2025 was a respectable year for Ruud though, winning two titles, and compiling a 39-16 record overall. This season, he’s 4-2, beating Mattia Bellucci, Jaume Munar, and most recently, Cilic.
Ruud won the first two sets against the Croatian before dropping the third. However, he bounced back in the fourth, winning 7-5. This is actually just the second time he’s reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, previously making this stage in the 2021 edition. Ruud hasn’t had a lot of success in the first Slam of the year, but he has an opportunity here to grab a third victory against Shelton, and potentially book a spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament. It will be interesting to see if he can continue his success versus the American star.
Ben Shelton vs Casper Ruud Picks
Shelton has looked utterly dominant in this tournament so far, and Vacherot wasn’t an easy opponent. I think the American will ride the momentum and finally secure a long-awaited victory against Ruud.
