The Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons were both favorites to win their first round series, but both found it very difficult to get their opponents out. The Pistons even went down 3-1, only to become the 15th team in NBA history to come back from 3-1 to win a series. They became the second No. 1-seeded Pistons team to complete such a comeback against the Magic. Go figure.

They both face a tougher test in each other here in their Eastern Conference semifinal clash. The Cavaliers’ dynamic backcourt duo of Donovan Mitchell and James Harden will really need to pick it up against red hot Cade Cunningham if they’re going to push this series deep.

Read on for our best bets and NBA betting odds on the most fun futures betting markets for this second round NBA playoff matchup!

Highlights

  • The Pistons and Cavaliers both played 7-game series in Round 1
  • Cade Cunningham is the second-leading scorer in this postseason, with 32.4 a game
  • Jalen Duren averaged 9.4 rebounds per game during the first round

Detroit Pistons-120-1.5 (+175)Under 5.5 (+155)

Both of these teams kind of squeaked out a first round one, but one finished the series a lot better than the other. Cleveland simply won all of their home games to win 4-3 over the Toronto Raptors, trailing for much of that Game 7 before a third quarter turnaround.

However, after an ugly 3-1 start to their series, the Pistons were a lot more dominant during their three-game winning streak to finish off that matchup. They have looked a lot more like the team that won 60 games to top the East during the regular season. And we believe they have a group of players that is more reliable than the stars in Cleveland. This one has the tightest odds of the second round, but we’re still going with the favorite.

Best Bet: Detroit Pistons To Win Series (-120)

The Cavaliers are too good to be swept, but we think the Pistons are going to avoid a second straight Game 7 here. Cade Cunningham has been unstoppable, and neither Spide nor Beardo are going to slow him down now. If Detroit’s bigs can hold up against Cleveland’s Jarrett Allen-Evan Mobley two towers set up, they should be able to win this series without too much anxiety.

Best Bet: Detroit Pistons To Win Series 4-2 (+550)

With how well Cade Cunningham played in Round 1 and how underwhelming Donovan Mitchell was against the Raptors, we’re surprised the Pistons point guard’s odds are not a lot shorter. At 32.4 points per game, Cunningham nearly averaged a full 10 points more than Mitchell in that first round (23.1). Snatch these -200 odds before oddsmakers think better of it.

We also like Cunningham’s go-to guy, big man Jalen Duren, to win the rebounding category while offering even more value at -160. He averaged 9.4 rebounds last round, most of any player in this series. Mobley and Allen should cancel each other out in this category as they did in the first round (8.6 and 8.3, respectively) and the regular season, when Duren averaged 10.5 and Mobley and Allen averaged 9.0 and 8.5, respectively. As long as Duren doesn’t get hurt, he should have this one in the bag.
