Tottenham vs Villarreal Odds

Sportsbooks have nabbed Tottenham as a -120 moneyline favorite on Tuesday. That’s an implied win probability of 54.55%. Villarreal returns as a +290 underdog and has been given a 25.64% chance of securing three points.

These two sides have never locked horns in the Champions League before.

Tottenham vs Villarreal Analysis

After a two-year hiatus, Spurs are back in the Champions League. But that wasn’t because they were an elite Premier League side last term. Tottenham managed to win the Europa League title, taking down rivals Manchester United in the showpiece. That gave them automatic qualification for Europe’s premier competition. Thomas Frank’s men are off to a respectable start to the campaign, winning three and tasting defeat just once. They’re currently sitting third in the table behind Arsenal and title-holders, Liverpool.

Tottenham has beaten West Ham, Burnley, and most notably, Manchester City, while losing to Bournemouth. They’ve actually been scoring their fair share of goals, with Richarlison and Brennan Johnson leading the line with two tallies apiece. Richarlison is going to be very key in Frank’s attack, especially after Heung-min Son left for the MLS. As previously mentioned, the Lilywhites have never faced Villarreal, but they’ve failed to win in their last 13 matches against Spanish oppositions, losing on seven occasions. They’ve also won just once in their last seven opening games of a Champions League campaign.

Villarreal is a regular in Europe, but not always in the UCL. It’s usually Europa where they’ve had the most success. A fifth-place finish in LaLiga last term was just enough to book a spot in the Champions League, where they face a relatively difficult schedule. Aside from meeting with Spurs, Marcelino’s side will take on the likes of Man City, Juventus, Dortmund, and Bayer Leverkusen, among others.

When it comes to their domestic form, Villarreal has a 2-1-1 record through four games. They began the campaign with back-to-back wins, but since then, the Yellow Submarine haven’t won. The club played to a 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo before Diego Simeone’s Atletico put two past them on Saturday in the Spanish capital. Villarreal have never beaten a Premier League opponent in the Champions League across 14 fixtures.

Tottenham vs Villarreal Injury News

Spurs remain without a plethora of players, including Dominic Solanke, James Maddison, Yves Bissouma, and Dejan Kulusevski. Mathys Tel also won’t be available for Tuesday’s affair in North London. When it comes to Villarreal, they’re missing Pau Cabanes, Logan Costa, Gerard Moreno, and Nicolas Pepe.

Tottenham vs Villarreal Picks

Although Spurs have shown next to nothing against Spanish teams, their form is solid right now. I’ll take the hosts to snatch three points here, but both sides will also hit the back of the net.
