Indiana vs Oregon Analysis

The Hoosiers have truly had a spectacular season, and they deservingly locked down the top seed in this College Football Playoff. After all, Indiana had a perfect regular season that saw them cap it all off with a 13-10 victory in the Big Ten Championship against Ohio State, who just got eliminated by the Miami Hurricanes. Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza is the engine of this team, and he’s been nothing short of phenomenal.

The quarterback has thrown for 3,172 yards and 36 touchdowns against six interceptions while completing 72.3% of his passes. Mendoza has also been a threat on the ground, rushing for six scores and 256 yards. The signal-caller was uber-efficient against Bama, completing 14 of 16 passes for 192 yards and three TDs, helping Indiana win 38-3. The Hoosiers have overmatched every opponent, but to be fair, Oregon did make it relatively close earlier in the campaign.

The Ducks are no pushover, and they’re undoubtedly battle-tested as well. Dan Lanning’s squad had to beat James Madison in the first round before shutting out Texas Tech in the quarterfinals. They have a versatile weapon of their own under center in Dante Moore, one of the top QBs in the nation who should likely be a first-round pick in the NFL draft in April, alongside Mendoza. Moore had a great year, throwing for 3,280 yards and 28 TDs against nine picks. He helped lead Oregon to a 13-1 record up to this point, with their only loss to Indiana.

However, the Ducks were dealt some terrible news on the offensive front earlier this week, with top running back Jordan Davison suffering a broken clavicle in the victory over Texas Tech, and he won’t play on Friday. Davison had 15 rushing touchdowns this season, and he’s a versatile weapon for this attack. Noah Whittington will be relied upon to make some noise in the backfield, but it won’t be easy against such a strong Indiana defense.

Indiana vs Oregon Picks

Indiana has shown they can deliver the goods when the pressure is on, and Mendoza is not afraid of the bright lights. He’ll lead the Hoosiers to the national championship. Take Indiana to cover.
