Inter Milan vs Fluminense Odds

Inter head into this quarterfinal clash as a -140 favorite, while Fluminense returns as a +400 underdog here at soccer betting sites. These two sides have never met before.

Inter vs Fluminense Analysis

While it was a long, grueling season for Inter, it was a productive one. The Nerazzurri finished as runner-up to Napoli in Serie A and also made the Champions League final for the second time in three years, although it did end in defeat against PSG. Simone Inzaghi left the club shortly after the European final for a job in Saudi Arabia, with Cristian Chivu taking over. The Romanian has been at the helm in the Club World Cup.

Inter have shown well so far in the new-look tournament in the States. While a 1-1 draw with Mexican standouts Monterrey was slightly disappointing on matchday one, they responded with back-to-back wins over the Urawa Reds and River Plate. Lautaro Martinez has led the way in the final third, bagging two goals in three appearances. There’s definitely no shortage of motivation for Inter to finally win a major trophy in a big competition, but the reality is the Club World Cup hasn’t exactly been a success, and another domestic season is less than two months away. Regardless, they’re deservingly a favorite on Monday.

Fluminense hail from Rio de Janiero and have shown why Brazilian football is elite. They played to a hard-fought draw with Dortmund on matchday one while also snatching a point against Mamelodi Sundowns and beating Ulsan 4-2 to book their place in the Round of 16. Thiago Silva is the headliner for this side but he missed the final two group games due to injury. However, he’s expected to be in the starting XI for Monday’s affair.

Fluminense are now riding a nine-match unbeaten run across all competitions. They also have a very impressive track record against Italian clubs, winning 10 of 14 meetings. This is a strong defensive club, but they didn’t show a lot of clinical abilities up top in the group stages, with the exception of matchday three. That being said, they have their work cut out for them against a team as brilliant as Inter, who were literally competing for the most prized trophy in club football only a month ago. Fluminense must bring their absolute best.

Inter vs Fluminense Picks

Although Fluminense has a very good backline that could give Inter some trouble, there’s no questioning who the better side is here. I expect this one to be close, but the Serie A giants will come out victorious and move onto the quarterfinals, where they will likely face Manchester City.
