Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund Odds
Moneyline | Real Madrid -163 | Dortmund +380 |
Total Goals | Ov 2.5 (-190) | Un 2.5 (+130) |
By no surprise, Madrid is a massive -163 favorite for the quarterfinal. Dortmund returns as a +380 underdog at soccer betting sites.
These two clubs have met 16 times, dating back to the late 90s, with Los Blancos winning on eight occasions. Dortmund has five victories of their own, while the other three matches ended in a draw. Madrid beat BVB 2-0 in the ‘24 UCL final and also hammered them 5-2 in the group stages of the ‘24-25 competition.
Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund Analysis
A major change was made prior to the Club World Cup as Carlo Ancelotti left the Bernabeu for the managerial job with the Brazil national team, while Xabi Alonso came in to replace him after his impressive stint with Bayer Leverkusen. Los Blancos looked sluggish in Alonso’s first game in charge, grabbing a lone point in a 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal. But, the record Champions League winners responded in their final two group fixtures, comfortably beating Pachuca and RB Salzburg, netting six times during that span while conceding just once.
Madrid ultimately finished at the top of Group H, setting up a last-16 affair with Juventus. While it wasn’t the most convincing win, Alonso’s men did just enough to see themselves through to the final eight of the tournament. Kylian Mbappe also returned after a stomach illness, coming on as a second-half substitute. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he were in the starting XI here. Jude Bellingham, meanwhile, will face his brother Jobe, who is seemingly following in his footsteps. The younger Bellingham recently joined Dortmund from Sunderland.
Dortmund had a bit of a disappointing Bundesliga campaign, ending up in fourth place and barely securing a spot in the Champions League for next season. However, considering they were in the bottom half of the table at one point in 2024-25, it’s safe to say that Niko Kovac has helped reignite this club. The Croatian manager led BVB to a first-place finish in Group F, beating Mamelodi Sundowns and Ulsan while grabbing a point in a draw with Brazilian giants Fluminense.
The German outfit scored two early goals against Monterrey on Tuesday courtesy of Serhou Guirassy. The Guinean was their most dangerous player in the final third in the Round of 16, registering all six of Dortmund’s shots on target. Karim Adeyemi was a constant threat as well, setting up both of Guirassy’s goals. The attacking duo will need to bring their best if Dortmund is going to upset Madrid in New Jersey.
Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund Picks
I’ve really liked how Dortmund has played in this event, but they had some shaky moments in the last 16 against Monterrey and easily could’ve lost if the Mexicans were more clinical. Madrid, meanwhile, is still Madrid and they’re simply a more quality side. Los Blancos will come out on top.
