Liverpool vs. Manchester United - Premier League Odds

One of the biggest rivalries in the English Premier League is the battle of the North between Liverpool and Manchester United. While the fact that Liverpool is effectively out of the title race so early in the season does take a bit of juice out of the match, the passion will still be there when the two clubs play at Anfield on March 5th.

Despite their disappointing season and lackluster performances in 2023, Liverpool still find themselves as the surprising slight betting favorites on the three-way moneyline according to most sports betting sites.

Highlights

  • Liverpool come into the match having won just two of their last seven PL fixtures
  • Manchester United ride into Anfield on the back of winning the Carabao Cup Final
  • Liverpool have not lost to Man U at Anfield since 2016

Liverpool vs. Manchester United Premier League Odds

Despite the fact that they sit four spots below Manchester United in the Premier League table, Liverpool are listed on most sports betting apps, including Betway, as the favorites to win this match. While it may seem perplexing, Liverpool’s track record against United at Anfield was probably a big factor for the oddsmakers here.

Liverpool Premier League Odds

This has been something of a season from hell for manager Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool team. They had been perennial contenders for the league title over the past half decade or so, but they’ve fallen completely out of the picture this season, as evidenced by their position in seventh in the league table after 23 games and their +25,000 betting odds to win the 2023 Premier League trophy on Betway.

They had a good run of four straight wins going into the New Year, but the first two months of 2023 have been the stuff of nightmares for the club from Merseyside. In a four-game span to start off the New Year, they gave up a combined nine goals to Brentford, Wolves, and Brighton with a scoreless draw at home against similarly underachieving Chelsea stuffed in the middle.

They were also eliminated from the FA Cup in late January by Brighton, not to mention that epic collapse at Anfield against Real Madrid in the Champions League last week that saw them go up 2-0 early, only to fall apart in an eventual 5-2 loss.

Liverpool had been seeing a bit of a bounce back before that Madrid debacle, taking seven points from their last three league matches. They’ll need to regain their confidence in their midweek fixture against Wolves if they stand a chance at converting on those +130 odds to beat Manchester United, who are one of the form teams in the league at the moment.

Manchester United Premier League Odds

The fact that Manchester United are slight underdogs for this rivalry match doesn’t make much sense until you look at the Red Devils record at Anfield in recent years. They haven’t gone to that storied ground and taken three points in over seven years, which is a barren run that should not be ignored.

Anfield is well-known as one of the toughest places to play in the Premier League, and the historic rivalry of these two sides only adds to the atmosphere, which is why despite the 13-point gap between these sides at the moment, legal betting sites are handicapping this one as more of a pick ‘em, with United offering attractive +170 underdog odds.

Despite their recent struggles at Anfield, United have been in better form than perhaps any other club outside of Manchester. They’ve won eight of their last 11 Premier League matches going back to early November, with their only loss over that span coming in an epic showdown with league leaders Arsenal.

They also remain in contention for the FA Cup, and in the span of three days just last week they won the Carabao Cup Final 2-0 over Newcastle United and dispatched La Liga heavyweights Barcelona in the Europa League knockout phase. If any team should be feeling good right now, it’s Manchester United.

Total Goals Odds

While we are talking about the fourth and sixth highest scoring teams in the Premier League this season, the under for this game’s over/under total goals prop should definitely be considered at tasty +120 odds.

Manchester United have allowed multiple goals to their opponents just thrice in their last 20 matches in all competitions and Liverpool have been shut out in four of their last six league games. Also worth noting is that since 2003, United have scored multiple goals at Anfield just twice in their last 18 league matches there. Seven of the last 11 matchups at Anfield have also resulted in two or fewer total goals.
