Red Sox vs Rangers Odds
| Moneyline | Red Sox -137 | Rangers +106 |
| Total Runs | Ov 8.5 (-118) | Un 8.5 (-109) |
The Red Sox head into this one as a -137 favorite at MLB betting sites. The Rangers come back at +106 on the moneyline. The O/U is set at 8.5 runs, and the Under has cashed in five of the last six meetings.
This is the first time they will face off this season, but Texas has won four of the last six meetings with Boston.
Red Sox vs Rangers Analysis
The Red Sox actually showed some promise by making the playoffs last season despite trading Rafael Devers, but 2026 has been very disappointing. Boston sits in last place in the always competitive American League East with a 27-39 record, a whole 13.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees, who are currently tied for first place. Boston heads into Friday’s tilt in the midst of a four-game losing streak, and their biggest issue this season is offense. The Red Sox rank 28th in runs scored, and they’ve shown minimal power, sitting dead last in the big leagues with just 52 homers as a team.
Boston will turn to Gray in the series opener with the hopes of ending their cold run. While he’s dealt with injuries at times, Gray has been one of the team’s most consistent arms, posting a 7-1 record and 3.20 ERA. The righty has walked just 16 batters in 56.1 innings of work, and he always keeps his team in the game. Gray gave up three earned runs last time out, but he still fought, lasting 6.1 innings.
The Rangers may be a game below .500 at 33-34, but they’re very much in the mix to make the playoffs in a wide-open American League West. They sit only two games behind the Seattle Mariners, who own a 36-33 record. With many months left in the campaign, Texas has every opportunity to be playing postseason baseball this fall. The Rangers just took two out of three from the KC Royals, and this series in Boston marks the end of their road trip before returning home.
Skip Schumaker’s ball club has relied on their pitching so far. The Texas offense is hitting just .237 as a team while ranking 24th in runs scored. On the bump, the Rangers own a 3.68 ERA, but Friday’s starter has struggled lately. Leiter gave up five earned runs in his most recent start, and he also allowed four earned runs in back-to-back outings in late May. Leiter owns a 4.69 ERA overall.
Red Sox vs Rangers Picks
Boston always turns up when Gray is on the mound. Considering Leiter’s poor form and his ERA above five on the road, I’ll take the Red Sox to score some runs off him and ride this one out to a victory behind another solid outing from Gray.
