Alex De Minaur vs Ben Shelton Analysis
De Minaur is currently ranked No. 8 in the world and he’s having a respectable 2025 campaign. The Aussie has compiled a 38-13 record, including one title. That came last month, winning an ATP 500 tournament in Washington DC, beating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final. De Minaur has been on quite the winning run since entering that event, capturing seven victories in a row. He beat an unranked player in the first round, had a walkover in the Round of 32, then as previously mentioned, got past Tiafoe on Sunday in Toronto.
The match ended 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, with de Minaur getting the last laugh in the end . He’s in very good form at the moment, hence why he’s likely a favorite here. This is the perfect time for de Minaur to start heating up ahead of the final Grand Slam of the season. He’s had a bit of success in the Majors this year, making the Round of 16 at the French Open and also the quarterfinals of the Aussie Open on home soil.
Shelton continues to prove why he’s going to be a big part of the future of men’s tennis. While he may be arrogant at times, the American has backed up his talk with impressive on-court performances. He’s ranked No. 7 on the Tour, but he’s actually yet to win a title this season, going 29-16. Shelton has enjoyed himself at the Majors though, making the semifinals in Melbourne and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. He also progressed to the Round of 16 at the French Open.
When it comes to this current tournament, Shelton has beaten Adrian Mannarino, fellow American Brandon Yakashima, and Cobolli on Sunday. He’s only dropped two sets en route to the quarterfinals. The victory over Cobolli was the 100th of Shelton’s young career. He also performed well in the last tournament in DC, losing in the semis to Davidovich Fokina before the Spaniard was bested by de Minaur.
Alex De Minaur vs Ben Shelton Picks
I expect this to be an entertaining match. Although Shelton can be electrifying at times, de Minaur is extremely consistent right now. That will propel him to a crucial quarterfinal victory on Tuesday in Toronto.
