The NFL’s free agent frenzy is like nothing else in the sports world. That’s what happens when you have 53 spots available on 32 professional teams in one league. Nearly all of the worthwhile free agents have made their offseason decisions by now, which means we have a very good idea of how each roster is going to look in 2026.

And that means we can start handicapping for next season. The odds are out for the NFL’s 2026 Defensive Player of the Year, and as you might have guessed, it’s a lot of the usual suspects at the top of the odds board. Which makes sense considering how often preseason favorites win this award. Will that happen again in 2026? Read on for the NFL betting odds for next year’s DPOY, our favorite pick on the board, and a fun long shot bet.

Highlights

  • Reigning DPOY and 2-time winner Myles Garrett is the favorite, with +600
  • Only 2 DPOY winners since 2014 did so with preseason odds over +1,400 (both DBs)
  • 5 of the last 6 DPOY winners were top 5 on the preseason odds board

The Favorite: Myles Garrett, Edge, Cleveland Browns (+450)

Prior to each season since 2022, Myles Garrett has been top five on the Defensive Player of the Year odds board. This year is not different—except for the fact that he is the No. 1 favorite by himself at somewhat ridiculous +450 odds. Oddsmakers must remember, we’re only in March. Garrett is likely to be in the mix for the entire season, but considering there hasn’t been a back-to-back winner of this award in nearly a decade, there’s only been three back-to-back winners in the history of this award, and those insanely short +450 odds, we’re going to look elsewhere six months before the season kicks off.

Our Best Bet: Aidan Hutchinson, Edge, Detroit Lions (+800)

They say that after a significant injury, it usually takes a season and then another to really get back to full strength. 2026 will be that second year back from a major injury for Lions edge Aidan Hutchinson. He looked like the favorite for the award in 2024 before breaking his leg. He had 14.5 sacks last year, and we expect him to continue building on that total in 2026. His impressive TFL and forced fumble numbers make his case even more appealing.

Dark Horse Candidate: Nik Bonitto, Edge, Denver Broncos (+1,200)

Every one of the top 12 players on the DPOY odds board is an edge player. And that’s because only two non-pass rushers have won the award since 2014. But that also means that none of the top guys have super long odds, even here in March.

The one with the best mix of opportunity to repeat a good 2025 and good odds value is Broncos 2025 breakout star Nik Bonitto. People weren’t paying attention when he had 13.5 sacks last year, and they didn’t show a ton of love for his 14.0 last year. But if he keeps getting better as we expect him to, Bonitto will be impossible to ignore in 2026.
