Brewers vs Cubs Game 5 Analysis
Milwaukee is on the brink of a brutal collapse, losing both games at Wrigley Field after taking an early 2-0 series lead. Their offense has completely disappeared, dropping Game 3 by a score of 4-3 before falling 6-0 in Game 4 on Thursday evening. However, the Brewers do get to return home for this decisive Game 5, and the American Family Field atmosphere is always beneficial for this ball club. They were 52-29 at home in the regular season.
It’s unknown who wills start for Milwaukee on Saturday. Freddy Peralta pitched in Game 4, while Quinn Priester took the defeat in Game 3. Jose Quintana pitched quite a few relief innings on Wednesday, which means it may just be rookie Jacob Misiorowski in Game 5. But, Pat Murphy could opt to use an opener before bringing in his flamethrowing youngster, who was very solid in Game 2.
The Cubbies showed their guts in the last two games on home soil. Game 3 was a hard fought victory, scoring a decisive run in the seventh inning. Chicago then came out of the gates firing on Thursday, with Ian Happ smacking an early three-run home run to set the tone. Michael Busch and Kyle Tucker also got in on the action, cracking a pair of long balls as well. They chased Peralta after just four innings of work.
On the bump, Matthew Boyd threw the ball extremely well, lasting 4.2 innings and giving up just two hits and no runs. The bullpen was also brilliant, allowing a mere one hit and no runs as the Cubs shut out the Brew Crew. All signs point to Shota Imanaga getting the call on Saturday but skipper Craig Counsell hasn’t confirmed that quite yet. Imanaga surrendered four earned runs in 2.2 innings in Game 2 at American Family Field.
Brewers vs Cubs Game 5 Picks
These two teams always battle it out, and I expect another exciting contest here. However, I don’t see Milwaukee losing a third in a row, especially considering they’re back at home. Take the Brewers moneyline.
