The 2025 Stanley Cup Finals are set, and we have our first rematch in 16 years. The Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers meet for the second season in a row, with the Cats winning in seven games last year. Game 1 is scheduled for Wednesday in Alberta. We’ll handle a preview for the opener this week as well, but when it comes to the series favorite, it’s surprisingly Connor McDavid and Co. instead of the defending champions.

Panthers vs Oilers Series Odds

Odds to win Stanley CupPanthers +105Oilers -125

The Oilers are sitting at -125 on the moneyline for this series at NHL sportsbooks. The Panthers return at +105.

Edmonton came back from a 3-0 series deficit in the Finals last year, only to lose in the end. When it comes to the season series, Florida won both games in 2024-25, but they were close, finishing with 4-3 and 6-5 scorelines. This should be a phenomenal matchup.

Panthers vs Oilers Analysis

The Cats are building a modern-day dynasty down south and have a chance to win their second straight championship. In fact, this is the third consecutive season Florida has also made the Stanley Cup. They’re a powerhouse team, and although the Panthers finished in third place in the Atlantic Division in the regular season, it didn’t matter once the playoffs rolled around.

Florida has been unstoppable, taking down the Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Carolina Panthers. While the Leafs series was difficult, they showed resilience, overcoming a 2-0 hole to win it in seven games. The Cats then proceeded to run through the Canes, beating them in just five games. The Panthers are also arguably even better this season than last after adding Brad Marchand and Seth Jones at the trade deadline. 10 different players are in double digits in points in the series, led by Aleksander Barkov. You can see just how deep and Talented Florida is, and they have a real shot at repeating.

The Oilers are trying to follow in the Panthers’ footsteps and will be looking to get revenge for last June. Edmonton had a solid regular season, and although many picked the Los Angeles Kings to kick them out in the first round, the Oilers came up big and advanced. Kris Knoblauch’s group then eliminated the top-seeded Vegas Golden Knights and the Dallas Stars for the second year in a row in the Western Conference Finals in only five games.

Edmonton is also a team with tons of depth. McDavid has led the way in the playoffs, collecting 26 points. Leon Draisaitl isn’t far behind him with 25, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has 18 points. The veteran was a star in the Dallas series, putting up 10 points in just five contests. The Oilers are without Zach Hyman, though, due to injury, which is a major blow to their physicality. They will need that in the Finals against the Panthers, who are a tough squad. Evander Kane is one name that comes to mind who will need to step up.

Panthers vs Oilers Picks

I expect this series to be nothing short of a dogfight, just like ‘24. However, I truly believe this could be Edmonton’s time. They have so much motivation after last year’s heartbreak, and McDavid will be hellbent on finally winning a Cup. The Oilers are a complete team, and they will just edge out the Panthers in a hard-fought seven games.
