Villa heads into this fixture as a -118 favorite at soccer betting sites. Palace returns as a +333 underdog. A draw has +250 odds.
It’s actually surprising to see the Villains as such a clear favorite. The Eagles have beaten them in three of the last four meetings across all competitions, including a 3-0 victory in the FA Cup in April.
Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace Analysis
After making some noise in the Champions League last season, Villa have yet to get off the mark this term. Matchday one saw them snatch a lone point in a scoreless draw with Newcastle before the loss to Brentford. A win is a must for Unai Emery’s men here, who do not want to keep dropping points. The glaring issue so far is the lack of goals. The Lions haven’t hit the back of the net once. That’s certainly concerning given the talent they have in the final third with the likes of Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers, and John McGinn, among others.
The defeat to the Bees was especially disappointing. Brentford’s squad and dugout were completely stripped in the summer transfer window, but they still found a way to come out on top against Villa. On a more positive note, Emery’s side is unbeaten in their last 19 games at Villa Park – an impressive run in itself. But, they won’t be happy with a draw. The Lions will be gunning for a victory, and nothing less.
Palace are unbeaten this term, but the loss of Eze is what hurts Oliver Glasner’s group the most. The Englishman was a game-changer on the pitch at Selhurst Park, and he’ll be deeply missed as he heads to North London. However, the Eagles have shown well thus far, securing an impressive draw with Chelsea in the league opener before finding the same result against Forest.
Glasner’s men also managed to win the Community Shield earlier this month, besting Liverpool in penalties. That was their second piece of silverware since May, of course beating Manchester City in the FA Cup showpiece as well. Despite Eze leaving the club, they did manage to replace him, signing Spanish youngster Yeremy Pino to a five-year deal. He’s set to wear the No. 10 shirt after starring at Villarreal.
Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace Injury News
Andres Garcia and Ross Barkley remain sidelined due to injury for Villa, while Frenchman Boubacar Kamara is in doubt after picking up an injury on matchday two. Ezre Konsa is back, however, after serving a one-match ban for a red card. As for Palace, Pino is available to feature on Sunday. But Odsonne Edouard, Caleb Kporha, Eddie Nketiah, and a few others are on the shelf with injuries.
Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace Picks
It’s only a matter of time until Villa starts banging in goals. They’re too strong a side to keep playing this way. Palace have been very solid defensively, though. I’ll take a draw, and both teams to hit the back of the net.
