Aston Villa’s pursuit of a Champions League spot will come down to the wire on Premier League matchday 37 as they welcome struggling Tottenham to Villa Park. The kick-off is scheduled for 2:30 PM ET on Friday, May 16. The Lions are in sixth place and just two points out of fourth place, so this fixture is absolutely vital for them. As for Spurs, they’re well on their way to a disappointing finish, sitting just above the relegation zone. Below, find the Aston Villa vs Tottenham picks.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Odds

Villa is a massive -275 favorite here with an implied win probability of 73.33%.  Totttenham meanwhile sits as a +600 underdog at soccer betting sites. The total is set at 3.5 goals, with the Over cashing in two of the last three meetings.

Spurs have won back-to-back EPL games against the Lions, but Aston Villa did beat the in the FA Cup in February.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Analysis

In many ways, it’s been a solid campaign for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa. The club was on the verge of the Champions League semifinals, losing a nailbiter in the second leg a few weeks ago against PSG, who are now in the final. The Lions also finished in the top eight of the UCL group stages. They impressed heavily. However, Villa hasn’t been as consistent in the Champions League. The side has compiled an 18-9-9 record, with the race for a spot in Europe’s prized competition becoming a fierce battle.

Chelsea and Villa have 63 points, while Man City have 65 points in fourth. A victory is essentially a must for Emery’s group on Friday to keep their hopes alive. Thankfully, the Lions are in good form, winning two straight Premier League matches. They beat both Fulham and Bournemouth by 1-0 scorelines. Ollie Watkins produced the goods against the Cherries last week, bagging his 16th goal of the season. Villa has only tasted defeat once on home soil in league action.

Tottenham may be in the Europa League final against Manchester United, but that doesn’t hide the fact that the 2024-25 campaign has been a complete nightmare for a club that is considered one of the Big Six in England. Spurs have an 11-5-20 record, scoring 63 goals in 36 games but conceding 59. The Lilywhites are in 17th place, just a point behind the Red Devils in 16th.

Matchday 36 was more disappointment for Ange Postecoglou’s side, dropping another three points as they lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace. In fact, Tottenham is winless in their last five EPL fixtures and four of them ended in defeat. Friday is a chance to play spoiler and find some momentum before the Europa final next Wednesday, Spurs’ only chance at silverware this term.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Injury News

Villa is dealing with a couple of absences up top. Jacob Ramsey will miss out due to suspension, while Marcus Rashford has a hamstring injury. Youri Tielemans also remains out due to injury. As for Tottenham, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are both done for the season. Spurs may rest some of their starters so they’re fresh for the UEL final.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Picks

Villa is unstoppable at home, and they’re simply a better club than Tottenham. I do believe they will cruise to victory against a Spurs side who won’t be at full strength, but both teams have scored in four of the last five meetings. The visitors will find the back of the net. The Lions will just end up being the ones who walk away with three points.
