Two sides battling for a European spot lock horns on Saturday, January 17, as Chelsea welcomes Brentford to Stamford Bridge. The kick-off is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET. The Blues just lost a 3-2 thriller to Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinals on Wednesday, and they’re winless across their last five league appearances. The Bees, meanwhile, beat Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup last weekend, and surprisingly sit in fifth place in the Premier League table. Read on for the Chelsea vs Brentford picks.

Chelsea heads into this clash as a -139 moneyline favorite at soccer betting sportsbooks. Brentford returns at +370 odds. A draw is priced at +309, while the O/U is set at three goals.
The Blues and Bees have played to a draw in three of their last four meetings. The reverse fixture in September ended 2-2 at Gtech Community Stadium.
Chelsea vs Brentford Analysis
A new era has begun at Stamford Bridge, with Liam Rosenoir replacing Enzo Maresca as the club’s new boss. His Blues tenure got off to a positive start last weekend, as Chelsea smashed Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup. The London outfit then put up a respectable fight against Premier League leaders Arsenal on Wednesday in the EFL Cup, heading into the second leg in early February down 3-2 on aggregate.
However, it’s been a relatively poor spell for the Blues lately. They’ve only picked up three points across their previous five league fixtures, settling for draws with Newcastle, Bournemouth, and Man City while losing to Aston Villa in late December. The lack of positive results has dropped Chelsea into eighth place, but they’re only four points behind Liverpool, who currently hold the final Champions League spot.
Practically nobody could’ve predicted that Brentford would be competing for a berth in Europe after losing both Bryan Mbuemo and Yoane Wissa last summer to big-money moves to Manchester United and Newcastle, respectively. Plus, Thomas Frank is set to take over the managerial opening at Tottenham. But, Keith Andrews has come in and done a phenomenal job with this revamped squad, leading them to a 10-3-8 record. The Bees have bagged 35 goals and conceded just 28 in 21 games.
Brentford has been led by Brazilian Igor Thiago, who has accounted for nearly half of the side’s goals. The 24-year-old has bagged 16 goals this term, which is second in the top flight behind only Man City’s Erling Haaland, who is sitting on 20 goals. Andrews’ men also head into this affair in very good form, notching five wins in their last six matches across all competitions. Their last league game resulted in a dominant 3-0 victory over Sunderland.
Chelsea vs Brentford Injury News
Cole Palmer is expected to return for Chelsea, while Malo Gusto, Romeo Lavia, and Levi Colwill remain sidelined. Jamie Gittens and Reece James are doubtful to feature. As for Brentford, Joshua Dasilva and Dango Ouattara are unavailable, while Jordan Henderson is questionable.
Chelsea vs Brentford Picks
Instead of taking a winner here, I’m eyeing Igor Thiago to hit the back of the net. He’s flying high at the moment, bagging five goals across his last two games. The Brazilian has no shortage of confidence, and he should keep it rolling with another strike.
