Friday, May 16 brings a must-watch fixture at Stamford Bridge between Chelsea and Manchester United. The kick-off is scheduled for 3:15 PM ET. The Blues are in hot pursuit of a Champions League spot with two games to go and this clash is a must-win for them. As for the Red Devils, they’re at the bottom of the table, but do have the Europa final to look forward to next week. We’ll get into that more below.

Chelsea vs Manchester United Odds
Moneyline | Chelsea -235 | Man United +600 |
Total Goals | Over 3.5 (+115) | Under 3.5 (-160) |
Chelsea is a heavy -235 favorite with an implied win probability of 70.15%. Man United meanwhile sits as a +600 underdog at soccer betting sites. The total sits at 3.5 goals.
Six of the last nine meetings have ended level. The reverse fixture also finished in a 1-1 draw in November at Old Trafford.
Chelsea vs Manchester United Analysis
The Blues have more or less had a respectable campaign, compiling an 18-9-9 record. They’ve scored 62 times while conceding 43. Chelsea is in a fierce battle for a Champions League spot with the season quickly drawing to a close. Enzo Maresca’s men are two points behind Manchester City in fourth. Aston Villa is also level on 63 points with the Blues, and they face Tottenham on Friday, which should be a victory as well.
Chelsea will be looking to bounce back on matchday 37 after getting blanked 2-0 by Newcastle last weekend. That ended a five-game unbeaten run that was highlighted by a 3-1 victory over league winners Liverpool, with Cole Palmer finally ending his goalless drought. Despite United’s struggles, they’re never an easy opponent, and it won’t get any easier on matchday 38 as the Blues visit Nottingham Forest.
The arrival of Ruben Amorim hasn’t done much for the Red Devils, who are in 16th place, one of their worst finishes in many, many years. United has a poor 10-9-17 record, and scoring goals has been a major issue. They’ve only hit the back of the net 42 times in 36 games. If it wasn’t for Bruno Fernandes, I’m not sure where the Red Devils would be. He has eight goals and nine assists this term.
As previously mentioned, United is through to the Europa final against Tottenham next Wednesday, but Friday’s affair is an opportunity to play spoiler versus a bitter Premier League rival. Amorim’s squad hasn’t won in England since March 16 when they beat Leicester City. They’ve tasted defeat in back-to-back league games against Brentford and West Ham.
Chelsea vs Manchester United Injury News
The Blues’ attack was dealt a crushing blow at St. James’ Park as Nicolas Jackson was handed a red card, which means he’s unavailable for the final two games of the season. Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu are also injured, while Jadon Sancho can’t play against his parent club. As for the Red Devils, they remain without the services of Diogo Dalot, Joshua Zirkzee, and Lisandro Martinez.
Chelsea vs Manchester United Picks
I expect the visitors to rest numerous starters in preparation for the Europa final next week, which should give Chelsea the advantage. Plus, the Blues have a lot more to play for here. I’ll take the hosts to come out victorious.
