Manchester United vs Crystal Palace Analysis
After deciding to sack Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils have seemingly turned around their season under new boss Michael Carrick. The Englishman has thrived in the Old Trafford dugout, and after Monday’s three points against the Toffees, United is now unbeaten across their last six games. During that span, they’ve notched wins against Manchester City and Arsenal – the two sides battling it out for the Premier League title.
While Carrick’s men may not be in the title conversation, they’re certainly in strong contention for clinching a spot in next season’s Champions League campaign. The Red Devils sit in fourth spot with a 13-9-5 record, sitting three points clear of Chelsea in fifth. The Blues have it tough this weekend as well, clashing with the Gunners. That being said, another victory for Man United could potentially increase their lead in fourth for that final UCL berth.
Palace have been stripped clean this term by English giants, with Arsenal snatching Eberechi Eze early in the season, while Marc Guehi joined Man City in January. Regardless, they’ve remained a side that can give even the best teams trouble. While Oliver Glasner’s squad is in 13th place, just five points separate them from seventh-place Brentford.
Thanks to their FA Cup triumph last season, the Eagles are also competing in the Conference League after being relegated from Europa. Palace just beat Zrinjsi Mostar 3-1 across two legs in the play-offs this week, booking a ticket to the Round of 16. But, there continues to be drama between Glasner, the board, and the fans. It will be interesting to see if all parties can put their issues aside and produce a much-needed result in Manchester.
Manchester United vs Crystal Palace Injury News
The only concern to emerge from Manchester United’s trip to Everton was Bryan Mbeumo walking off gingerly, but the issue is not thought to be serious and he should be available this weekend. Lisandro Martinez is still sidelined with a calf problem, while Mason Mount continues to edge closer to a return but is unlikely to feature just yet. There is still no clear timeline for Patrick Dorgu, who is dealing with a thigh injury, or Matthijs de Ligt, who remains out with a back issue.
Maxence Lacroix shrugged off a recent groin issue to start and score in midweek, a timely boost for the back line. However, Jefferson Lerma remains out with a hamstring problem, while Jean-Philippe Mateta and Cheick Doucoure continue their recoveries from knee injuries. Eddie Nketiah is also unavailable due to a thigh issue.
Manchester United vs Crystal Palace Picks
Palace have now won three of their last five games across all competitions, but United is arguably the most in-form side in the Premier League right now, and they’ve won eight of their last 12 home matches, losing just once during that span. The hosts will emerge victorious.
