The Magpies aren’t off to the best start and played to a scoreless draw with Bournemouth last weekend. As for the Gunners, they also grabbed a lone point on matchday five, settling for a stalemate with rivals Manchester City. Read below for the Newcastle vs Arsenal picks.

Newcastle vs Arsenal Odds

Arsenal is a favorite here, but not by much. They have +110 odds at soccer betting sportsbooks. The hosts, who are looking for just their second victory of the campaign, sit at +250. A draw holds +230 odds for this clash.

Newcastle has actually won three of their last four meetings with Arsenal. In fact, Arteta has lost four times at St. James’ Park against the Magpies, only losing to Man City more on the road (five times) since taking over in the North London dugout.

Newcastle vs Arsenal Analysis

The Magpies may be playing Champions League football again, but they won’t be pleased with their results through the first month of the Premier League season. Eddie Howe’s group is in 13th spot with a 1-3-1 record. Their only win came against Wolves earlier this month. The whole Alexander Isak saga certainly affected this club, but they did a respectable job in replacing him. Newcastle signed ex-Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade to take Isak’s place at St. James’ Park. He’s already bagged a goal in two league appearances for the side.

Prior to their easy victory over Bradford City on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup, the Magpies shared the spoils with Bournemouth last weekend at the Vitality Stadium. Newcastle looked quite toothless in the final third, with just one shot on target. Howe’s men have just one win in their last seven Premier League fixtures, and that run started with a 1-0 loss to the Gunners on May 18. But their brilliance on home soil against Arsenal is a huge positive ahead of a crucial encounter.

Arsenal has finished as runner-up in the English top flight in back-to-back seasons, but their summer activity has many believing they could finally lift the grand prize. The signing of Viktor Gyokeres is the headliner, with the Swedish superstar already netting three times in five Premier League appearances. That being said, Arteta’s squad is still playing catch-up behind holders Liverpool, who sit five points clear at the top of the table. The Gunners are tied for third with 10 points, collecting a 3-1-1 record. Their only defeat came against the Merserysiders thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s stunning free kick.

The North Londoners looked on their way to dropping three points to Pep Guardiola’s Man City last Sunday, but Gabriel Martinelli came to the rescue, hitting the back of the net in injury time. While beating City was obviously the goal, grabbing a lone point was a massive result in their pursuit of the title. Every single fixture counts, especially when Liverpool is playing such flawless football. Arsenal will be looking to grab their first win in their last three visits to St. James’ Park, tasting defeat in each game.

Newcastle vs Arsenal Injury News

Newcastle is dealing with a variety of absences. Yoane Wissa, Fabian Schar, and Jacob Ramsey are all injured. Jacob Murphy is also hurt, but Howe said he may be available if needed on Sunday. Arsenal, meanwhile, remains without Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. Noni Madueke just suffered a knee injury as well, and will be sidelined for the foreseeable future – a brutal blow to the Gunners’ starting XI. However, Martin Odegaard looks set for his return after missing three games.

Newcastle vs Arsenal Picks

Arsenal have struggled to score goals against sides with a strong backline, and Newcastle is solid as can be defensively. I could see these two sharing the points on Sunday. Take the draw.
